I've never understood the fascination with it nor how it could be useful. And I especially don't understand how it's used for news. Character limitations aside, do you have to "follow" every reporter just in case they tweet something important? That seems very decentralized and inefficient.

Am I the only one that doesn't get it? And does anyone have a good beginning twitter for dummies page that goes over it? Even though I have a pretty large penis I consider myself to be fairly computer literate, but Twitter is just one of those things I can't seem to wrap my head around.

I have it but not a single person I know tweets anything of relevance. Its a platform for celebrities for the most part.

How do you get the breaking news though? Do you follow certain people and those provide the news, or I guess not necessarily individuals but company twitter accounts?

Look at the trending topics. Learn to use the search function.

And it depends on the news you want. NBA news, follow some NBA reporters. National news? Follow some news services or individual reporters. Local news? Follow the local news station.

All of these people not only break their own news, but they retweet other news that will show up on your feed.

I know what's going on sometimes days before it gets onto TV.

I use it for one reason. If you have a complaint about a company's product or service, twitter that shite to them. Sometimes you get free stuff or they will actually fix it.

Follow news organizations. If it's important enough, it will get retweeted.

Really good for niche news. My follows include Astros beat reporter, foreign policy experts, tech security, LSU sports bloggers, etc.

I run the social media accounts for a program I manage.

I find twitter and instagram to be very annoying. You get a lot of robo followers and people constantly liking your stuff just to get you to follow them back.

They have their uses, but not something I see the point in having a personal account for.

I think these two would definitely make it more useable for me. So they have Twitter accounts divided into topics? Similar to how forums have different sub forums etc?

No but you can make your own lists. You can divide your lists by, say, all NBA follows on one list. All political follows on another list, etc.

It's a way for celebrities and other types of people that have high status like politicians, athletes, etc to directly communicate in real time, without filter/gatekeeper of traditional media and reach the public and get instant feedback without exposing something like their private email address. It also allows anyone to have a degree of anonymity and post things without backlash they would get exposing their identity on something like facebook. It was and is a genius concept.

Too bad they are operating at a loss and can't figure out how to monetize it, they are sitting on a literal gold mine, just without the necessary tools to mine it.

Sports news breaks fast on twitter. NBA free agency news, follow sports teams if you can't watch or listen for important plays/scores, etc.

I don't really do anything on there but it's the absolute best place for keeping up with horse racing.

I use it for news, sports, weather, etc. Twitter is a good way to get information out quickly, as well as communicate with others on those topics.

One example of Twitter being helpful is during severe weather, a lot of meteorologists use it as another platform to get warning information out. Saw it used just yesterday to share information about flash flooding in the Birmingham area.

Yes, but I don't tweet. Use it strictly for news during football season.
