Do you think the Allies would have won WWII if Russia has sided with Germany?

Or if Hitler didn't initiate operation Barbarossa and Russia just sat the war out.

The eastern front of WWII was tying up crazy amounts of German resources. A quick google search shows that over 3 million german soldiers died on the eastern front. Only about 500,000 died on the western front.

I don't think he would have been stopped. Especially if the US was still having to fight Japan at the same time.

edit: great points on both sides. I'm enjoying reading through this

How fast would the USA have been able to make a few more A-bombs, and could the allies have held out that long?

I'm glad I wasn't a German soldier on the eastern front.

If Russia simply sat out, the Allies would have still won, it would have taken a lot longer though.

If Russia and Germany teamed up, it would have been almost impossible to beat that combination on the European front with the US being an ocean away. And to those talking about nuclear weapons------they weren't being massed produced and took a long time to put together back then, so the losses of military personnel between bombs would likely have been the turning point to seeking some type peace treaty, on the Allies part.

the nuke came towards the end of the war. without germany fighting russia there is a good chance that britain would have already fallen and there may have been a german invasion of the US starting already. We were also worrying about the japanese

If Russia supplied the Germans with soldiers and resources, the Nazis would have easily taken over Europe unless we went nuclear on everyone.

It might have last longer, but then that would have been more atomic bombs that were dropped.

Britain was the farthest ahead on the bomb. To get us into the war, FDR's gov't forced them to basically give us all of their technology. We promptly cut them almost completely out of further research on their material.

There would never have been an invasion of the US by Germans. Hitler wanted Europe and to starve out the Slavs.

I agree with this. I think the US would retreat and fortify the homeland and Germany would do the same with all of Europe.

Then we'd have Russia, Germany, and the US as the big dicks in a standoff.

The nuke ended the war. An invasion of the US would have taken a force triple what the D day invasion would have and still would have been repelled. Mexico and Canada would have backed us. We would have bolstered England and made our stand there. The only major thing Russia would have added was manpower. It would have taken years to amass the forces to attempt an invasion. We would have made more bombs and dropped them way before they got a foothold here. The US dominated the seas, especially in the Atlantic..

Russia and Germany would barely be able to feed themselves, so the extra manpower is doubtful.

Germany would have access to more oil and steel perhaps. But Stalin blinked first in the initial pact and after he recovered didn't blink again.

The whole reason Hitler launched at that time was the Germans realized their lead in the new style of war was quickly losing ground to Russian tech. So they either won it then or not at all as the Russian quality of mass met with better guns and tanks 2 and 3 years down the road.

had the UK fallen, we would have never tried to liberate Europe. Instead we would have supported insurrection activities as Germany would have done against us.

We would still be fighting Japan and given the fact we didn't need to fight on two fronts, we would have beaten them before Germany could move assets to help. Russia would have never helped Japan given their history. Stalin would have claimed China all for himself.

I doubt Germany would have invaded the US until it had developed its own nuclear bomb and a missile to deliver it. Considering most of the early Cold War scientists were German, I'd say the Nazis would have had that capability by 1950.

Russia was getting help from the U.S. through Lend-Lease. Over 17,000,000 tons worth, anyway.
