I don't think it's a work, but I definitely think WWE exaggerated the severity of it, and then capitalized on it and marketed it. He's had leukemia for years, yet now all of a sudden it "flared up" and then went back in remission just in time for WrestleMania? I don't buy it. Vince resorted to playing the sympathy card, and it worked. I lol @ all those who say WWE would never do such a thing

Exaggerated the seriousness... of leukemia.

It may be time to lay off wrestling Twitter.

If you watched RAW last night, Roman came out to cheers and then Seth came out for a promo with Roman and the direction they were headed very well looked like Seth was going to give Roman his spot vs. Brock at Mania. I was actually surprised it didn't happen because the way the promo was going it just seemed like that was the end result.

So then he can main event his 5th straight WM.

Considering how much companies try to “work” the fans and their own employees, it’s not as stupid and paranoid as you would think.

That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vince pulled cancer aside and told him to keep Reigns looking strong, to pull from an infamous CM Punk story.

Nah, it's stupid. If that gets out that's the type of thing that'll bring protesters and lose of sponsorship. Having fans cheer for a guy is a minimal reward when compared to the risk.

Especially when the only real goal is to get a reaction, and he certainly got that every night

The guy was headlining multiple Wrestlemanias - the company wouldn’t risk the backlash of a fake cancer work just to get people to like him.

It’s possible. I usually assume everything in wrestling is a work. Even the Montreal screw job.

There’s a big difference in the Montreal screw job and a cancer angle. I don’t think pro wrestling would stoop so low to have an angle involving leukemia.

Maybe 30 years ago you could pull off faking a major illness. Not today.

He’s had leukemia for 11 years, during which time it’s been in remission. Then in October it suddenly returned and became life-threatening... yet during his time off he was in good enough health to go shoot a movie... and then went back into remission just in time for WM. Too convenient.

Honestly I feel it could be but I don't think they would be that stupid. It's too public of an organization for that now. Maybe in the 90s that could be pulled off. The backlash wouldn't be worth the face push for him. So I have to think it wasn't a work for that reason.

The WWE is too image concious. Something like a fake leukimia diagnosis would garner a lot of criticism when it would inevitably be discovered.
