If it keeps extending, maybe I can get another round of Corona checks. But seriously, schools and gathering places such as concerts and theaters should stay closed and open everything else May 1st. That is if we keep trending in the right direction.

Is this a joke that I dont get? That's not even close to correct.

Edit: Nevermind, I assumed you were talking about US. This is for the world. I'll see myself out.

And how exactly does that prevent people from driving?

no shite

Well society does not shutdown to prevent that from happening. So yes, shite.

quote:

the point is that using driving as a comparison is a bad example in this case because we do have restrictions/regulations in place to lower driving deaths

And the bigger point is there is a middle ground between no restrictions and ruining the economy and millions of lives to save a few ten thousand. Enforcing social distancing instead of mandating that businesses close, quarantining at risk patients instead of widespread shelter in place requirements, etc.

quote:

you are basically arguing for restrictions with making the driving deaths comparison

The restrictions in place for driving haven't triggered an impending financial crisis. Nor did they ever put millions of people out of jobs, to my knowledge.

No one is saying restrictions can’t be put in place. The entire point is the restrictions that are in place are a massive overreaction and causing more harm than they are preventing.

the driving deaths comparison is a terrible comparison considering we have all kinds of regulations/restrictions already put on us for driving that are there to lower driving accidents/deaths

Highway deaths in the US peaked in 1972 at over 54,000. Last year we had about 36,560 despite millions more people.
We invested millions of dollars in highway safety, safer cars and trucks, better traffic, control, etc.

This is going to be the new talking point from governors and mayors now that models are getting revised. Inslee just dropped this line at a press conference:

quote:

“We cannot risk losing the gains we have made after the peak of this pandemic presumably will have passed.”
