No. There's only 7 billion people that can't do what they do.

we probably need a tax increase at that income level.

To be fair, I think we need what amounts to a tax increase at the lower income levels as well

What kind of solution do you propose will come from giving the wasteful gov't more money?

They should be paid like salespeople. Modest salary and huge bonuses if they produce.

Lewis Hamilton makes as much as the operating budget for the Mercedes F1 team... impressive.

have you seen the NBA's tv ratings and how much commercials/tickets/concessions sell for? thats the justification. a percentage of that money goes to the players and if you have Lebron James on your team you will bring in more

very underpaid. the nba salary cap is a sham and he should have been making 50 mil + throughout his career.

good point.

but they do coincide. lsu football is a great example: taf charges the frick out of people for tickets, parking food, etc.

but when the product is good they pack the house, taking in millions. I mean does a blubbering coonass really deserve to be paid as much as coach O to coach kids football? no. of course not. but everybody associated with lsu is cool with it as long as he beats bama and then some.

Just this decade. Add another 100 million from the decade before.

The next contract will probably just as lucrative if not more.

There is no difference in a athlete or a CEO, both make way to much money.

Way way way overpaid. What constructive value do they contribute to society. All big-money athletics (and entertainment too) does is put ridiculous amounts of money into the hands of people who, on the whole, are very poorly qualified to handle it. And many many of the people idolizing them are on welfare.

The true big millionaires of society ought to be the teachers, nurses, doctors, EMTs, police, firefighters, soldiers, hell even a good garbage collector ought to earn more.

This was my point about economic vs philosophical. The idea a great teacher will earn a tiny portion of the ~900k a league minimum rookie makes in the NBA for sitting down on the far end of the bench is repugnant on some levels but not on others.

That being said I did not martyr myself for the good of society, I chose a career that paid well based on the economic model.

There's no such thing as being overpaid in the free market.

But there is one group that is highly overpaid - teachers.

Yes and No

Yes because what these athletes can do is very, very rare compared to the general public. Very few people in the world have the physical gifts that these athletes have.

No because what these athletes can do is very un-important in the grand scheme of things. There are much more deserving people based on their importance to society.

I hate when people say "they are paid too much". What does that even mean? They are paid that much for a reason. Do you want the owners to keep all the money?

Players generate money, that's why some are paid more than the others. Its not like the owners just have this huge pot of money they use to pay players whatever they want just because..
