If it is wet outside I take them off at the front door, if not then I walk to my room and take them off.
I do not wear shoes while just chilling at the house.

If they have a shoe holder in front of or at the door and it's clear that I'm expected to take my shoes off, then sure. Otherwise no.
My own house: I have a spot where I keep my work and workout shoes, all of my other shoes are in my closet.

I take my shoes off if I'm home for a while, if I'm running inside for something the shoes are staying on.

I definitely take my shoes off at my house, but that's for comfort. It's the same reason I change into basketball shorts if I'm home for longer than 10 minutes.
But, I certainly don't do it if there are guests coming over.
I recall taking off my shoes occasionally at a friend's house as a kid, but I never see that anymore. Usually I'm going either to pretty close friend's homes or to more business/professional visits at someone's home, and I think it'd be pretty awkward to make a bunch of folks in professional dress take off their shoes.
