This literally only applied to White Protestant Anglos.

In a general sense it didn't even apply to them, by and large. People fantasize the past. Rape, murder, war, genocide, and all the other horrible things in the world weren't invented in the last 10 or 20 years.

Too bad the 1980s was the single most violent decade in American history since the 1860s. The only reason you think this is you didn't have mass media exposure in the 80s.

By some strange coincidence, incidences of these crimes increased dramatically with the implementation of the 24 hour news cycle. It's the strangest thing. Those things never happened before.

I still do that. The difference, I'd guess, is what I tend to say is not so out there that a huge portion of our current society would feel the need to look at me like a moron for having said it. This reads like you want to say things which kind of sort of ought to be looked down on by folks. Reminds me of what occasionally happens to me as a middle aged white guy in Louisiana. Occasionally I'll have a white guy in general conversation start talking to me, and then out of the blue drop some vile racist comment about someone in front of me...you know...'cause I'm also white and will simply nod like it's ok. Nah...it isn't, actually.
Well put. I was going to say the say thing but do it more bluntly. I've never really been around people that get so deeply offended by stuff that isn't offensive; far more likely someone getting offended IRL due to something that's actually offensive. That's far more prevalent on the internet where people do it semi-anonymously.

“Nostalgia is denial. Denial of the painful present. The name for this denial is Golden Age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.”

Based on what?

Man is a communal animal, and most people are happier when they feel part of a community.
IMO we have lost that sense of community to a great extent. People feel more alone and exposed. They don't trust their neighbors or their leaders.
Thst every generation senses a problem with their current time does not mean none of them are correct.

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint".

No. Because America is safer now than it ever has been.

Homogeneous societies are typically happier

THEREFORE, at no time in human history has the relative past ever been better than the relative present.

Do I have that correct?

Only had a homicide rate of 10.2 in 1980, which I believe is the highest in US history

There were less burglaries then because your grandma stayed at home all day getting pounded by the milkman.

People lock their doors now because they spend more time with no one at home, it's got nothing to do with their morals (especially the morals of your whore grandmother).

No, but feel free to make arguments for others. I guess it helps with your debate
