Do you say "sir" & "ma'am" to those younger than you?

And do you feel slightly awkward when older people say it to you?

I call guys younger than me "skippy".

Yes. For me it's not an age thing. It's a respect thing.

This thread again... just to shorten things up, everyone in the south does. The rest of us are all assholes. The end.

Can't see any situation where that would be anything other than the elder person patronizing the younger.

I agree mostly. I never say "ma'am" to a hot woman. I feel like I am cock blocking my penis when I do that.

I call very few people 'Sir' or 'Ma'am', and I prefer others not to call me 'Sir'.

How much younger and under what circumstances? I'm not gonna call a 21 year old kid "sir".

Yes especially to my wife in times when it's needed
Posted on 11/25/14 at 9:51 pm to MrBobDobalina

Same answer here. Always. And I'm 66 and have been doing it my entire life. When I was a young man, most I addressed that way were my elders. As I moved into mid-life, it went both ways. And now that I'm a "senior", most of those I address in that manner are younger than me. It's second nature to me. The exception is that for very young women, I use "Miss" rather than "Ma'am", where appropriate, such as wait staff, store clerks, etc.

Depends on the situation... If they're helping me, I slur out a "thankyasir" otherwise it's "dude" or "brah"
Posted on 11/25/14 at 9:54 pm to Kafka
I do it only if I respect that person regardless of age.

I refer to my students as mr. And mrs.
I say ma'am and sir to them as well.
