So, it's your assertion that all mega-church pastors are rich fools?

If Jesus can leave his eternal throne to stoop down and become one of us, I don’t think it’s too much to ask a Pastor to identify with his people.

These mega rich pastors operating off these business franchise schemes living in 20 million dollar homes with multiple jets kinda missed one of the main points of the incarnation don’t you think?

hole most pastors use to get out of paying a majority of taxes even though they pay taxes on social security and Medicare unless they get a 4361 which exempts them from those taxes also. IE...don't pay taxes

What do either of those passages have to do with whether or not pastors sleep all day.

I doubt they sleep all day as often as contract programmers.

Little bastards sitting at Barnes and Noble on a laptop sipping a mocha while I'm trying to get a book on my lunch break.

F those guys.

Nah I was listening. The thread and its premise is just stupid so I lost interest once I started to reply.

And what’s the premise of this thread?

It’s amazing how simple serious questions rustle everyone these days because everyone sees everything through their own agendas.

What’s the agenda?

I asked some questions. You asked me to clarify (poorly I might add). I answered within the context of this thread.

What exactly is offensive about this?

So it's your contention that a pastor that starts a church in his garage, works hard and builds a church up, evangelizes outside his home ministry and builds more churches, builds hospitals, churches and schools in impoverished countries and is able to reach people in ways that create opportunities for salvation, that person should also be stricken with poverty? Most of the mega churches in Texas started that way, and have significant outreach organizations that help people. But none of that matters, because when they start out with nothing and in poverty, they should remain in poverty. Is that what you expect? Sounds like a severe case of you have failed to do anything significant with your own life that you might have been rewarded from so why should anyone else reap more than you yourself could sow on your own.

Bitter? Party of one?

Right this way Ms. unknownknight.

You sound legitimately butthurt. I’m not making some outrageous claim here. I’m actually detailing the advice of many seminary professors. Don’t live in such a way you lose touch with your congregation.

They can make all the money in the world. Don’t care. But when they live like kings rubbing it in their congregation’s face all the while continuing to rake in the money one has to ask what model of leadership are they following? A business one or a shepherding one?

Depends on the pastor. My two best childhood friends grew up to be pastors. One is the most kind hearted wonderful person I’ve ever known. He is an actual minister to people many would find deplorable and very jovial and fun to be around. If I ever get married, I will insist to my future bride that he is the pastor in our wedding.

Then there’s the other guy. He was a bully and horrible to everyone. He was the son of my parent’s best friend, and I found him funny for a time. Once I hit puberty though, I realized he was a monster. He never beat me up given our parents relationship, but he mercilessly bullied everyone in his grade who did not fall in line.

He’s the most selfish person I’ve ever met, and I have conclusive proof of this in comparing my other friend mentioned earlier. My real best friend I accidentally ran over his dog at night when she ran out in front of me. I felt like shite and cried for hours in killing his dog, but his whole family immediately forgave me and didn’t take it personally at all knowing it was an accident. The piece of shite friend I had on the other hand also had one of his best friend’s run over his dog on accident in the middle of the night. What was his response? During lunch one day, he went behind him, sucker punched him, and pulled down his pants in front of everyone on the grounds.

I’m almost sure he’s a self loathing homosexual, his wedding had the most horrifying vows I’ve ever heard, I know he beats the shite out of his current kids... and now he runs his own church. He figured out in high school that if he had God behind him, he could bully and threaten everyone and have people behind him calling him moral and pious. He’s a real life Frollo in every way. My friend says he’s horrified that a person like that could be a pastor when he against everything a loving God should stand for.

So it depends on the preacher. My friend to this day is a Saint as far as I’m concerned. The other who I know for a fact beats the dog shite out of his kids I would be shocked if he isn’t burning in Hell one day.

He never dated chicks in high school, did the highly homosexual act I previously said, and the vows... they were unbelievable. He had 2 and she had like 10. One of them was “you will never question your husband and submit to his will”.

His wedding was the last time I’ve set sight on him, but I have seen his kids in care of his grandparents. His two year old ran into the kitchen crying screaming repeatably “I aplogize” when he spilled a cup on the carpet. His grandparents just cleaned it up, but the kid was hysterical screaming that repeatably. First off what 2 year old knows the word “apologize” unless you’re in an abusive environment? There’s no question in my mind that he beats the shite out of his kids for such a thing. I’m sorry, but I think he is one of the only evil people I know.

Hardly. I just don't like it when a lie is perpetuated by someone with no personal experience, yet promotes the lie as if he knows it's the gospel truth.

My dad died recently. Five ministers from five different churches, one of them a mega-church in Indiana, flew in to speak at his funeral. Two flew in from Guatemala. My dad had started and funded a foundation long ago to help and assist poor, struggling pastors start churches. He also was major contributor to LSU. These ministers all spoke about their success in starting their church and their ministries being due to my dad having been such a giving person who believed in the Bible and who believed, as you stated, that you must give back in order to become rich. I know every one of these men, and each one is loving, caring and tend to their ministry and their members with love and an open spirit. So what if one of them has created a mega church? You're being very small-minded and lumping in some very decent people with your warped and distorted world view.

Only if they wear an untucked casual button down, metro sexual jeans, and a pair of loafers to the sermon.

What lie did I perpetuate? Men who lose sight of identifying with their people while treating church like a CEO instead of a shepherd are charlatans. Jesus goes so far as to call these types of threats “thieves and robbers” (John 10:8). I have yet seen you quote a scripture proving otherwise specifically in relation to being a pastor. Attack me all you want if it makes you feel better.
