This will get buried, but I've never served, and nor will I ever. My wife (No pics) works with VA patients daily. Those poor guys get screwed on their healthcare and its a shame. An older vet fractured his hip in a fall, and my wife had to wait 3 days for his approval so he could have surgery, and their was nothing my wife could do, besides keep calling. Its the same run around every time, and its BS.

No I don’t regret it. However, I served in the 80’s before all of the PC bullshite became the norm. It was a great decision at the time in terms of personal growth. The GI Bill subsequently paid my college tuition.
However, given the current state of our Armed Forces, there is absolutely no way in that I would recommend joining at this time.

No regrets from me. 6 years in the USN riding submarines. Learned a great craft that has served my very well and continues to do so. The only negative I have is at times communicating with those not taught the discipline, responsibility and drive you get serving is difficult. Hard to explain this some times but it can very frustrating having to have the same conversation over and over. Ex military folks, it is 1 conversation like it or not and ends with everyone on the same page.

In the US about 23 million people have served the military. I'm sure you can find thousands of examples in a population that large of things not being ideal for some people.
In any line of work, you will find examples.

Sir, no sir!
We weren’t allowed to make sir sandwiches, has that changed or just dependent on the service?

Navy. Don't regret it and actually miss that life.

Served 6 years in the USMC, 0341. I wouldn’t say I regret joining, but it certainly didn’t live up to any amounts of expectations. In the end it just made me even more bitter and distrustful of the federal government. I joined to be a Marine, not get fricking SAPR bullshite classes every other month and various other bullshite that does nothing to enhance the lethality of the military as a whole. I guess I picked the wrong time to join the USMC infantry; Gen. Amos was the commandant for most of my time wearing the uniform so that should let you know everything you need to know. One strike against you meant you’d never see past sergeant if they even let you advance that far.
In the end, I was fairly jaded about my time when I would look back at my TIS. The friendships and connections I made are the only thing that make me not regret it.

Did 20+ years in the Army combat arms, then a whole lot of staff time. Like many others here, I did multiple tours overseas and a bunch of training deployments to various places OCONUS.
I don’t regret it, but I feel a very heavy sadness at the many things I’ve dealt with. The loss of friends and the buddies who have been hurt. Missing the birth of my sons and not holding them until they were six months old did a number on me, and my marriage for many years later. Being gone for three years for tours to IQ; an absent father and spouse. The months on end spent in the field. The holidays, birthdays, and weddings missed.
I’m fortunate to have a good retirement, that my VA disability is there, and my boys will have their schooling paid for. At times, it’s difficult to feel proud of my service. Having only been retired for three years, it already feels like a very long time ago, and I feel that much further removed from many of the folks I served with, that a huge chapter of my life is finished, and I’ve moved into many new things post-Army.

Spent 8 years in and don’t regret it. Pushed my career back some, but still absolutely worth it.

I retired after 21 years and got out right before the Obamasaiah became commander in chief. There were times that sucked donkey (missing the birth of a child), but overall the perks far outweighed the negatives. I have 2 boys in Iraq right now and yea, I'm concerned about this dope president and his moronic cabinet.

Did 12 years. Only regret was reenlisting. Should of just done the initial contract and moved on.
