I listen to and read books all the time, if I think back to any specific book I either read or listened to, I often can't remember which of the two I did. IMHO I think the medium you use doesn't really matter in the long run.

In my experience people who are paying to listen to books in the car aren't cutting corners, they're usually professionals willing to pony up for Audible or the like because they can't find as much time to read as they'd prefer.
Exactly. Since I started working from home, in fact, I don't think I've listened to or read a book from start to finish. Could be the smartphone/screen-addicted millennial in me, but I multitask so much that putting my full concentration into one thing actually gives me anxiety about not accomplishing enough

What if it's a whispersync book from Amazon that you both read and listen to?
FWIW I listen to audiobooks all the time and just tell people I read the book.
Also, just set up an audiobook library on Plex. Greatest thing ever.

Been listening to tons on Overdrive and have faced the same dilemma. Though it is proven you do not engage as much while listening as opposed to reading a book..I have been using I read ______. May be cheating but I'm into it.

The only difference to me is that by reading and seeing words in print you might take away more in terms of spelling and recognizing a word being used in print where you would never see it by listening to the audio book. I know reading as many books as I did helped me a lot come ACT/SAT time; I'm sure audio books would have been helpful as well, I just think you would lose some of that by not seeing the words in print

Ready Player One?
I actually picked it up having not ever heard of it. After reading it I realized it had gotten really good reviews from majority of the people I know.
Pretty cool if you grew up in the 80s and can relate to some of the stuff.
Also everyone on the OT can also relate to the whole escaping to a new world on the internet

I used to only listen to audiobooks when I drive, but I've gotten to where I hardly ever read anymore, in favor of listening. Allows me to "read" considerably more books than I otherwise would have.

People have time to sit down and actually read books? At least with audiobooks I can exercise, mow the lawn, drive, cook dinner. Huge fan of Audible and Plantronics Backbeat Fit headphones.

I listen to audio books while exercising. I'm a big fan of Overdrive and the library system. I don't know why anyone would pay $15 per book on Audible when you can get them free through the library.

If you listened to one of my managers, he'd say, "the people who go to libraries are leeches and the libraries themselves should be burned to the ground and the people who support libraries should all be put in jail for supporting theft from the public."
I really don't even put that as him being conservative. He doesn't care about private libraries either. All just a waste of time and space.

I listen to the hell out of them. And while I did not read the book(s), I get the experience of having read the book if there is any comparison between a book and a movie.

I listen sometimes but overall they are too damned slow. It's very annoying. I can read a book in a fraction of the time it takes to listen to one.

Well you can't really read a book in your car. I guess you can but it's frowned upon. More productive than the bs on the radio.
