Ok. I prefer blondes. Neither are germane to the question at hand.

Most people will say freedom, but most people will always choose safety. Look at modern America. We don't have the TSA, NSA, CIA
I can see the necessity for the CIA at the time that it was implemented though. The TSA and NSA can go get fricked, though.

I absolutely do. I meant most Americans probably wouldn't view them as heroes.

Humor is freedom from the necessity of any condition.

I'd like both the freedom and safety of being able to legally own and carry my gun. You ban them and then only the bad guys have them. I get robbed at gunpoint and have to just wait 20 minutes for the cops? No thanks.

Give me freedom! This is America aint it?!
But I want strict crackdowns on regulating who can and cant come here, and I don't want the gays to be able to marry. I also don't want the potheads to be able to smoke their weed!

absolutely. The only person who can stop a a person with a nuke is another person with a nuke.

I choose freedom because I would prefer people be able to make their own risk assessments in daily life. I'm in favor of people being able to live their lives as they see fit as long as they arent harming others.
Do you know any people? People are stupid. Do you want your family's safety dependent on the judgment of your typical walmart shopper? If they are totally free then they will drive 90 on your sidewalk while your kids are playing in the yard. They WILL harm others.

As long as we have the freedom to 1) own weapons and 2) make decisions, there will be people who make bad decisions with those weapons.
It's the nature of freedom.

safety doesnt matter if you dont have freedom

But if you come across a jackass who wants to duel with you and he has a sword, wouldn't you at least like to have the option at a fair fight or would you prefer to wait for someone with a sword to show up and arrest him 13 minutes later, along with the coroner?
The answer to the OP is a bit of both. If the question is only one or the other with no middle ground, i'll take the safety every time. And that, fwiw, really has nothing to do with the Benjamin Franklin quote.

Only works if the elected government truly represents its constituents. We are very far away from that right now.
