Do you make your dog food? Or buy it?

My dog has been sick recently, and wasn't eating his usual hard food. So I bought some soft food and he loved it, but it is more expensive.
So then I bought some cheap chicken thighs and cooked some rice and green beans for him and, again he loves it. Seems less expensive than canned soft food.
Anyone do this? I'm debating on doing it regularly, make a. Arch every few days in the slow cooker, low cost, low effort, quality ingredients.

Dog food is blended for dogs to have all the vitamins and minerals they need in their diet. It's not just about cost

my grandma used to do this. Her dogs were all huge.
Biggest Rottweiler I ever saw, then the biggest Golden I ever saw. Each closer to 200 than 100#s.

meat has the minerals, veggies have the vitamins.
You can do it right.
Think of it this way. Man has domesticated dogs since before recorded history, yet dog food is only around 100 years old.
ETA, you don't need to cook the meat.

Make sure to feed him the chicken raw.
Don't cook it.

My dogs like the wet food mixed with the dry. One day out of the week I give them an entree dinner as a treat.
$1.77 at Walmart.

I've done it in the past. Had one dog whose favorite was sweet potatoes with turkey and green beans.

both lived to be 12. That's about right for a large breed.

Well I didn't say I was doing it only for cost.
And what nutrients are they getting that real meat, grain and vegetables don't also supply?
It's the first time I'm making it and only because he won't eat hard food.

my dog eats whatever leftovers I have around. I bought a large bag about 6 months ago that I still have about a quarter full and I'll give him some of that if I don't have leftovers.
He loves me. Vet says he's healthy so whatever.

Gf wanted to do this but just seems like such a hassle to have to cook for the dog every few days just to save a few bucks. I put the nix on the idea

You know what dogs really love? Scraps. Like, leftover food from humans. I don't know why people torture their dogs with hard, disgusting "dog food" (or pay so much for it).

Also, if you cook bacon, pour some of the grease over the dry food. Obviously, it needs to cool before you feed it to them.
