Compromising with your wife is baffling?

I want to live out of state in a city with good public schools and affordable nice housing and low crime

My wife wants to live in Nola

Moving to the northshore will make me happy, and keep her happy

How is that baffling to you?

For me personally, I don't view the northshore as a subburb. I will be able to stay over there for work and will rarely ever cross the bridge. It will be its own city for me. I get that others think that makes me a boring country bumpkin, but I can't wait

Without New Orleans this state is a hellish waste land of asphalt highways, strip malls, and national chains.

New Orleans is the foundation of the culture you enjoy in other parts of the state. New Orleans brings major events to the region such as festivals, concerts, Super Bowls, Sugar Bowl, huge conferences.. The list goes on.

Lastly, New Orleans brings bonafide international interest and relevance to the culture and heritage that we share in Louisiana.

Without it this whole area is just a flyover shite hole and the North Shore property you own would be worth 100k.

Honestly, what industry does Nola thrive on and bring to this state?

Not just that but....

There's tourism of course, but there is also manufacturing, the port, energy, film, and lots of lawyers and doctors...

This is a load of shite

My family comes from St. James parish and the French my grandparents spoke had plenty of culture without needing New Orleans. The prairie and bayou cajuns culture don't rely on Nola

Nola has great culture of its own, but it ain't the only city in south la that produces it

again, if we're going "city to city", then what does Nola offer compared to other cities?

more crime? similar/higher cost? extreme political dysfunction?

the worst part is that there isnt even a half decent place within 5 hours of NOLA. I miss the east coast for that reason.

I agree completely. But saying the rest of the states cultrual identity comes from Nola is so ridiculous it is hilarious

South la most famous cultural identity is cajun, which has absolutely nothing to do with New Orleans.

More stuff to do. Fried chicken festival and nola on tap in city park this weekend for example.

Political dysfunction is a nationwide phenomenon (see the president). Dodge crime by living in a better neighborhood or mehtry.

No other major city has anything to do this weekend, especially nothing as thrill seeking as a fried chicken festival
