Is your wife a nurse?

That's fricking terrible man, I can't even fathom what you have gone through dealing with that. Fortunately the meds now are really good and it's not as big of a deal as it used to be.

Well she should be a nurse.
Everyone knows that girls are nurses and guys are doctors.

funny, she says the same thing. Nurses make more than her since she is a lowly resident, they have zero consequences for mistakes, and any dumbass can become a nurse.

With less student loans to boot.

Edit

Oh, I forgot, if you waive an infected hiv needle around and its hits the attending, it isnt a big deal.

Crazy, I know.

Just think, same girl at the florobama doing whatever and then marrying some fool like me getting her M.D., and while preggo some brainless nurse makes the mistakes of all mistakes (in regards to saftey).

She should be.fine though.

I knew two. Both deceased.

My step-dads brother contracted HIV in the early 90s. He was a closeted homosexual and was married to a nice lady. He thankfully didn't infect her before his diagnosis and subsequent outing.

He was a nice guy but obviously struggling with his self identity.

Also knew a guy in my grandfathers neighborhood who did odd jobs and such. He was a drug addict and god knows what else. He had full blown AIDS. Very nice guy just had a ton of demons he couldn't kick. He died about 15 years ago. He was ravaged by the disease and had dropped to under 100 lbs and was stiff trying to do odd jobs to earn some cash for drugs and such.

I have an uncle who was diagnosed with hiv like 20-25 years ago. That's how he came out to his family.

What really sucks is that most of the family is really religious and look down on him because he's gay, which is fricking retarded. He's one of the best human beings I know.

Ksayetiger..... I am more of a lurker than a poster so it takes something I have to have meaning (or be drunk) to respond. Usually I see you as a poster and think "here we go...."

But after reading this thread I have to give respect. I went through dental school (I know csb) and know more classmates than not that had to take the cocktail due to a needle stick. It scary as shite to live a pure life and have an "incident" bring things into perspective. Just know the protocols in place exist for a reason and if you follow them you will be fine.

10 years since, no problems to speak of

Nope. But the reality is I would rather have HIV today than Hep C. HIV is very treatable with modern medicine.

Hepatitis C runs amok and will destroy your liver. My mom's best friend was an RN and got stuck with a used needle on a psych ward when the patient (after administering an injection) started going berserk. She barely got stuck and contracted it. She's had two liver transplants before they finally figured out the right treatment for her.

Yeah, a couple of people. One of my friends has been positive for over 20 years. Medicines have really been fantastic for him. Great health.

Baton rouge has a very high transmission rate, probably because highest rates are now in black heterosexuals.
