As a previous poster said, this is something taught in lower elementary. Do you expect a high school math teacher to stop a lesson to teach his students to read? Please.

Would literally take no longer than 10 minutes. You have the time.

A little aside here - not being able to read an analog clock or being able to draw one is an early sign of Alzheimer's.
Asking someone to draw a clock and then put the hands on a specific time is an exercise doctor perform on older patients.

You guys are very disillusioned. It's ok, I'm cool with wearing the mantle of the OT that cops and teachers are your dartboards.

Disillusioned about what? It's 7th grade. I don't remember 7th grade but I sure know how to read a clock.

Disillusioned about the current state of public education. There are kids showing up for Kindergarten still wearing diapers, dude. They can reach third grade and still not know the front from the back of a book. You can't fail them until fourth grade. Talk to education policy makers. No, don't because they are the ones creating this ridiculous policy because they need votes, and those voters can't be held accountable or they will be lost.

High C

You take a moment to show them, like you would your own kids. Not part of your daily lessons/planner/agenda...but because you care. You don't take the clock down, you make an impactful change.

A lot girls I know can't read it. It's either that or the battery is dead and they where it to look fashionable. Both are dumb.

we have a 60 year old feller at work that can barely read and write.

grew up dirt poor and has like a half arse 5th grade education. quit school to go to work.
black man from backwoods mississippi at the exact wrong time to be a black kid growing in that part of the country. dude still gets nervous as hell surrounded by whites he doesn't know.
took him almost a year to quit asking permission to go to the bathroom.

probably the nicest and hardest working person i know personally.
just isn't literate.
can barely read, struggles with numbers, and can't tell time.

Why don't you teach them instead of perpetuating stupidity?

I know two people who cannot read watches. I ask them what time is it constantly

Don't need to know how to make change when you can put everything on your EBT card.

This is one part of the Tech Revolution I like. I've always hated wearing a watch. My favorite part of Easy Rider was at the beginning where they throw their wristwatches away.

What's your reasoning, as a teacher, for not teaching them how to read a clock?

Calling us disillusioned is incredibly ironic.

Don't lump yourself in with other teachers here. I defend them often from a lot of the OT bullshite. You don't deserve defending.

So instead of teaching them how to read a clock, something that takes literally 3 minutes. You decide to take it down and say screw it? YoI sound like a great "educator" people like you are why teachers get laughed at when they ask for more money. Enjoy your 9 month work year.

We learned in 3rd grade. Others tell me they did it in 2nd grade. It wasn't just a 10 minute lesson. I recall drills on it over the course of some days (mixed in with other book learning).

Kids now with their digital clocks and calculators can't read an analog timepiece and don't even know how to use a slide rule or abacus. How will they survive?
