Yes, the ones I know are nice people. They tend to be very family oriented and place high value on education.

My small town in Alabama used to have a large Jewish contingent. A synagogue and also had their own night club downtown.
Most of the thriving businesses downtown were owned by Jewish families so my parents went to school and were friends with many of them. Once the money dried up they moved along to greener pastures. The synagogue is now closed but opens for tours every now and then.

Link to Selma’s Jewish history. Interesting read on how they came here and from what part of Europe and why. LINK

There are some Jews for Jesus through the Mississippi Delta as well.

Interesting philosophy.

And then the Black Israelites who preach on Canal each week.

Dude’s from Lafayette, Louisiana. Heard of the Oil Center? Guess who built it? New Orleans has a well known, vibrant Jewish culture going back CENTURIES. Historically. Jews have been a part of the political scene in Louisiana more so than in any southern state (other than FL).

Gemiluth Chessed (Acts of Loving Kindness) is a Moorish Revival synagogue in Port Gibson, Mississippi. It is the oldest surviving synagogue in the state and the only building of this architectural style. It was built in 1892 by a community of Jewish immigrants from German states and Alsace-Lorraine. Due to declining population as people moved to larger urban areas, the congregation closed in 1986.

Interestingly enough, little Port Gibson ("Too beautiful to burn" - Gen Grant) is also home to a celebrated church. PG 1st Pres:

One group that I find is barely represented at all in Louisiana is the Jewish people

Elvis Country.... Look it up.

FYI, there are only 8M Jews in the US. They basically all reside in California and the Northeast.

Not really locally. I dated a chick when I was a kid but that's it. I worked for Jews from Brooklyn for 9 years and honestly, they were great to work for.

Isn’t Lafayette’s thing having a weirdly high Muslim/ME population?

They’re pretty fricking normal honestly.

Do you find them wildly liberal by default?

Which is funny watching the spin of politics these days because they hated Trump while business thrived and delighted in him “losing” and now with so many business metrics going to shite they still try to rationalize biden.

Well most of you respond to my posts so you know at least one who posts on here.

Louisiana and in particular New Orleans once had a very large Jewish population until the yellow fever moved a large percentage of the population out. DH Holmes, Madison Blanche, Godchauxs, K&B, Merrill Lynch, Hess Oil, Adlers Jewelry, Krauss Dept Store, Hurwitz-Mintz, Issac Delgado (Delgado Community College), Paul Tulane (Tulane University), Judah Touro (Touro Hospital), Latter & Blum, Werleins Music, Goldring family, Coleman family (they built the NOLA CBD), etc.

The second mass exodus of Jews out of Orleans Parish took place in the late 70s/80s when the owner of Longs Bakery on Ferret St was murdered. Many moved out of state or relocated to Jefferson Parish and St Tammany.
