I did biomedical engineering with premed reqs then med school. I highly recommend it not only for a medical career but also in the scenario one doesn't get into med school.

Plenty get engineering degrees before med school. Some work for a bit before med school. Many of the doctors that became rich on device inventions were engineers or at least studied it. It’s a good backup if medicine doesn’t work out but often leads to lower GPAs so many don’t want to pursue the degree.

Dr Robert Fields at Mary Bird Perkins did his undergrad in Mechanical Engineering

Would a lower major Engineering GPA look better than a higher major GPA in some kind of science major?
Seems like the GPA slightly lower could be a risk

No, but knowing the right people trumps GPA.......or filling a quota.

What gpa is good enough

You should be worried thst most of these physicians cannot do a physics problem. Things are becoming a little rote if you ask me.
Physics has near 0 revelance to medicine for the vast majority of situations. Only maybe like 5-10 concepts are any type of relevant, and it’s simple flow dynamics where you can get by by understanding the effect of radius changes. Chemistry would be immensely more valuable. Kinesiology would be more valuable, psychology would be more valuable.
The most valuable is the standard, old reliable bio degree. Gives you well rounded exposure to the sciences and then focuses on relevant topics like cell bio and biochem etc.

Do doctors really make much money? After the debt and insurance
I guess they do in the long run but it can be a lot of stress and long hours.
Alcoholism and suicide rates are typically very high.
I think the best results come from those who are part of a good private practice. Some get student debt paid as part of the partnership deal and get other docs to cover for vacations so they can have a life outside of work. Then you get closer to a standard work week and weekends off.
I guess the lesson is there is no free lunch. You may make a lot of money but if you don't have time to enjoy it or destroy yourself in the process what is the point?
My $0.02 and worth what you paid...

Some ER docs go apeshit working and make around half a million. Earnings depend on your business prowess which most docs have little to none, along with whatever work ethic they may have. Depends on the business contracts involved and bargaining/ risk tolerance and overhead.
Debt is massive in number, but minor in the long run it’s less than a 2 years salary at worst, and many times can be worked out to be forgiven/absorbed by your employer or the state

Yep, guy in my high school class. Super smart, pretty weird, but also a really good guy. The type of nerd that everyone actually liked even if they didn’t hang out with him. Got his undergrad in mechanical engineering then went to law school to become a patent lawyer. Passed the bar and did that for like a year, got bored, then went to med school. Now he’s one of those rural practice doctors somewhere in Idaho and has a wife and a bunch of kids. Literally a doctor, engineer, and lawyer.

I think if you would ask a lot of doctors nowadays if the juice is worth the squeeze you may get no as answer
It’s probably the easiest way to make 6 figures as a piece worker.
I’m a doctor. I’ve made a nice living, but I regret not focusing on owning and developing products and patents. I am a well paid day laborer. It is what it is.

Yep. Good friend of mine. Engineering, then Radiology. He invented some new way to image for breast cancer that revolutionized the way it was done. Smart cat.
Do we know the same baw?

Actually, I do. He got his undergrad in Chemical Engineering and went to Med School, both at LSU. He has never worked as an engineer.
