Should have asked him if he knew how to fix it.
What would be the reason for not simply saying, "Nope, don't know how to fix that. I would probably mess it up more?"

I do feel bad for him, old Korea war vet, had strokes and a heart attack. Daughter killed herself son in prison for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is just odd. I'll see him slowly walking into our culdesac and I'll go into my garage and lock the gate to avoid him.
He used to just ask for rides, that was the first time he asked for money. So I didn't give it to him.
He only leaves the house to get smokes while his wife is at work. I'm the one who found him after his heart attack years ago, so he since then has came to me for stuff.

I don't know my neighbors very well but everyone seems really nice and we've hung out with our neighbors when our street had their annual "burn the Christmas tree" party.
I wave hi, they wave back.
Only neighbor that bugs me is the one across the street that has been renovating their house ever since they moved in a house on the street last February. It is the never ending renovation at this home and it's just annoying in that I'm tired of all the loud construction noises I'm sure they are cool people though and I bet their home will look amazing whenever they are finally done.

Truthfully I just try to please everyone and only release anger and thoughts of how crap upsets me on this site really. IRL I'm always outwardly happy and content with everything so I think people think I like doing it.

When I briefly lived in BR I hung out with my neighbors as we were around the same age. I'm 20 years younger than all my neighbors at least.
No one my age around, except for the newest people who just moved across the street.

My parents live on a block full of single women and they are always asking my dad to help with yard stuff or car stuff. But they are all old (60+).

I prefer not to know my neighbors.
I just moved from a place that I lived in for over 7 years. We would just exchange a quick hello and that was good.
Just moved into a new house in a high end neighborhood and my neighbor rutted up my yard while doing an elaborate fence upgrade. Screw him.

When I moved into my current house, I made it a point to not tell anyone I worked in IT.
But really I prefer to not get too involved with any of them besides exchanging pleasantries and talking about sports.

My neighborhood has big lots. We rarely see our neighbors, much less speak to them, just the occasional wave when they are walking or jogging. My kids do expect me to fix their cars though, or pay to fix them.

This thread makes me glad i don't know any of my neighbors.
Thankfully the worst issue I've encountered is the neighbor who wouldn't move their trash can from the curb (i moved it for them a few times and it finally seems to have sunk in that we don't live in slum tenamant housing, so put your damned can up.)
Second worst problem is the teenage kid a few houses down that plays drums in his garage 3-5 afternoons a week. It wouldn't be so awful if he had a good sense of rhythm and timing. But he does not.
