I turned down a golden opportunity to get a PhD from one of the most prestigious universities in the world because I thought it'd be better to get a job to support my wife and kids financially. We wanted to have more children and I wanted to give my wife the opportunity stay at home for a few years.
That was 18 months ago. Still haven't gotten hired for a full-time position and now work afternoons/nights Monday through Saturday doing freelance music work for a very low wage. In fact, I make the exact same amount as my PhD stipend would have been except the PhD program offered full family medical, dental, and vision benefits. Not to mention I would have supplemented my stipend with this same kind of music work.
That's pretty bad regret.

A lot of my "regrets" kind of helped shape who I am today. But I did make some pretty dumb decisions along the way that I would probably not have made if I could do it all over again. Won't go into details though.

I have a few, but then again, to few to mention.
Truthfully, from ages 15-25, I was a complete dick because of some personal shite mixed with an already hot head. I was quick to fight, even quicker to frick, and couldn't care less about who I hurt along the way.
During those years, yea, I did some shite I wasn't proud of.

Almost all of my big regrets from my adult life have mixed with good stuff and brought me to a place that I am the happiest I've ever been.

Yes. All the girls that looking back in retrospect I could have banged in HS/ right after, but was too young and dumb to catch their signs. Oh the v-cards I could have taken

But even if my life didn't turn out exactly like I expected or envisioned, it's a life I happen to love and be grateful for. There's really nothing about it that I want to change because I feel like there's always a trade off, and I'm not willing to trade for hypothetical happiness when I already have the real thing. So it's hard for me to say I have regrets when everything, good or bad, is what led me to where I am today.

If it makes anyone feel better I know two physicians that regret their career chooses. One of the docs wanted to be a chemist and work in a lab, and the other wanted to be a engineer. Their parents pushed them into medicine, one of their fathers was also a physician and consider his child doing anything else a total failure.

I regret not going to the Auburn @ Arkansas game in 2007 not because it was some great game, but just missed a fun trip for no good reason
I regret not fighting some bullies in 8th grade over some stupid rumors they started
This doesn't rise to the level of regret, but I do wonder "what if" from time to time, turned down a job with Delta Airlines working for my mentor who had gone to work for them, over small amounts of money. Happy with my career, generally, just hard not to think about those flight benefits
