Years ago when the Louisiana Lottery first started there was a policeman in central Louisiana that won 4 million dollars. The backstory is his wife was disgusted with his poor salary and that he was always working security details and overtime to make ends meet. She gave him an ultimatum, get a better paying job or she was leaving. She left and got a divorce, less that a year after the divorce was final he won the lottery.
He quit policing then,I was told by acquaintances of his he didn’t want to quit but he felt like he would be a lawsuit magnet.

I won an Xbox 360 from Mt. Dew during their "Every 10 Minutes" sweepstakes. Surprisingly, that unit never got the RRoD.

Yes. My story is I lost the powerball and mega millions after I was sure I’d win. I daydreamed for literally minutes after buying the tickets. But all for naught.

Damn I have same story

Dated a girl in college whose family had won the LA Lottery. I think it was 2 million. That's all I got.

In the early days of the Louisiana Lottery, I got my dad to buy a scratch off called Louisiana Purchase at Delchamps. The prizes were variations of 1803.

We won 180 dollars. I remember getting him to go cash it in. It must have been the largest ticket to date they had cashed because they had to get a manager, verify the ticket, and then pull the money out of their safe which was oddly located on the ground behind the elevated platform where the manager worked out in the open.

I was working at a golf club in south Florida as an assistant professional, and was asked to join the lottery group, which I did. I left the the club after accepting a head professional position I had interviewed for. A few months later the head pro that I had worked for at the previous club called and told me the group ( which he was not a part of) won the lottery - I can't recall the amount but it was 7 figures for all involved.

I remember that...they won $15 million not a million.

They were serious about the double wide in Alabama.

Too stupid to even have that much money.

Was it $15? I hope it was. I know it was lower than the jackpots became because it was the first one.

I don't know about the too stupid part though. It wouldn't be what I would do but it is the dream of a lot of people and who am I to judge?

I have tried to find out what happened to this couple...can't find much. I hope they lived their dream, as simple as it seemed, and enjoyed life. I would bet they were broke within a few years but I hope not....

I have a good friend who inherited a sizeable family fortune...nothing crazy but enough to live comfortably for him and at least a couple of generations. I know he and his wife have suffered through a lot of stress worrying about NOT blowing that money. Life has a way of breeding stress no matter what your circumstances are. He studied and fretted over boats for 2 years before buying one LOL...most people would think that inheriting a pile of money would make life simple and it does on one hand but comes with a lot of problems most working people are ill equipped to cope with.

He probably would've been a litigation magnet.

As far as the divorce they were both probably better off. I can't imagine my marriage ending but I know people who have been in bad ones and when they ended they were shell shocked for a minute but most overcame it and did well...

I played the Powerball and Mega Millions last go around and lost. I was pretty upset about it. I really thought I had it nailed down this time.

Is it stupid? They probably didn’t need a huge house, and wanted more land. Rather than blow it they just bought what they needed. It’s smart. Let’s say cash option of 15 mil plus taxes gets you around 7 million. Spend 1 million on land and home plus other small things and safely invest the other 6 million. Just a 3% return is 180k a year that you can live comfortably on and so will your kids and grandkids

I sometimes go to this little discount cigarette store on Veterans. It must be a place to go to get tickets because it gets crowded on big lotteries. I think they sold a $150,000 ticket. People will buy multiple individual tickets then buy scratch offs then it gets rung they pay and then buy other stuff.. One day there was a line and the guy behind me announces to the store that he has to take a crap and to hurry up..He also says that he might have to stop at Burger King to crap..

There was a guy that saved up all the points the commercial said you need to get a Harrier jet. Sued when Mountain Dew wouldn't come up with it. Court sided with Mt. Dew over some bullshite but we all know that guy should've gotten his jet.

Rebecca Paul was hired in February 1993 as the first president of the GLC. On June 29, 1993, the Georgia Lottery began selling tickets. First-week sales of more than 52 million tickets set a new opening week lottery sales record of $7.80 per capita. The Georgia Lottery was able to pay back its start-up line of credit within two weeks of start-up. Within five months, the Lottery met its first-year sales goal of $463 million, and ended its first full year in operation with $1.1 billion in total sales.

That's $1M today, what was it in 1992?

The only thing I've got is a friend who is a doctor had a patient whose brother won the Powerball. The patient saw an aerial picture of a house on the bay in Destin. The patient asked about it, doctor wanted to sell it, he let the guy take the picture off the wall to show his brother. The brother bought it sight unseen because he just wanted the lot.
