But it's also possible there could arise a situation where you do need a firearm and you need to use that firearm. The tragedy in Louisiana last night is a perfect example
I don't think last nights tragedy is a good example at all
I, personally, would not want some random guy trying to be hero trading bullets with the shooter, in relatively small, chaotic, dark room like a movie theater

You can't even run around the LSU Lakes anymore without getting raped these days. Yeesh

That theater and most theaters are gun free zones so even if you had concealed carry permit, you'd be leaving your pistol in your van.
Depends on the significance of the sign in a given state.

I believe the only true "gun free zones" covered by law are government buildings and schools or similar places. I think in private businesses it's only a private policy of the business owner and does not carry the weight of the law behind it.

I get what you're saying and agree, to an extent.
Sometimes the sight or sound of an opposing force is enough to make the shooter move, miss, hesitate, etc which saves lives. The less the guy pulls the trigger, the more the chances of survival increase.

Varies by state.

I do but I don't want to live in a world where every jackass is carrying a gun in a holster to pickup a sandwich at the deli. I also don't want to live in a place where homicidal maniacs can easily procure guns and ammo and shoot up movie theaters.
Reality isn't a fricking John Wayne or Bruce Willis movie. Have a gun to protect your home? Great. Carry one to Olive Garden bc you think you're Rambo? GTFO.

Well Olive Gardens attract a pretty shitty crowd man.

I have carried in movie theaters for years.
My ex frequently told me I was foolish for doing so, then the James Holmes shooting happened. She never said a word about it again.
To clarify, I agree that the prospect of successfully ending an active shooter event without making things worse in a dark crowded theater is highly dubious....but at least you have the option if you have no other choice. With no gun, you have no option.

I kept thinking of how much responsibility came with it. Plus there are so many situations the instructor talk about where there is such a fine line between doing the right thing and going to jail yourself. It's weird.
I sometimes wonder if people understand this. Having a CCL doesn't mean you have carte blanche to use it whenever. If you frick up you could go to jail for manslaughter.
That's why I don't have one. My gun is strictly for home protection. I don't need to tote it around with me for protection on the street.

I carry, but my work can take me to shady areas.
Lots of guys in my profession carry, especially those in small firms or solo practitioners.
Y'all need to stop making house calls and get some poor college kid to run their broke assess to you.

Let's think about what you just said. You and your wife and kid or kids are sitting in a theater and some nut walks in with an AR-15 or something similar and starts shooting everyone one by one making his way closer to you and your family. There's no way for you to stop him. Would you rather sit there waiting your turn for you and your family with no hope of stopping him or would you hope someone there who knows how to use a firearm could unholster that firearm and stop him before they get to you and your family?
For me personally, if I were in that situation, it's a no brianer. You and your family have zero chance if the shooter is the only person with a firearm in that room. At least if someone can fight back that gives you and your family some hope of survival.

Cricket, do you lock your doors when you leave your residence? Why so paranoid? Do you have serious mental issues?
