I have a St Bernard that jumps fences and fights with neighbors dogs. He has no sense about his size and goes after really small dogs as well.

The thing is he is so cute people are always trying to pet him and without warning they stick their face in front of his, like a baby. Then when they stand up he lunges and barks at them. A little black girl did it on Halloween, I have never seen a more scared little girl.

It is a problem for me. My wife hates the dog. I kind of like his protection. I guess in addition to the 3k I forked our for him, I need to pay for obedience school.

Obedience school is more for you than the dog. It helps you understand how you can better control your dog.

Are you not supervising him all the time? Having a large dog that can potentially hurt someone or another dog requires a responsibility on your part to always look after your dog. If you know he jumps fences, you should not leave him unsupervised.

If he is jumping fences while you are watching him, then you need to leash him.

What are you doing on a daily basis to help mentally stimulate your dog? What about exercise? Are you tiring him every day? To the point where he can no longer walk?

Most likely, your dog is either afraid or actually bored. This requires your involvement. Putting him in a fence while you go inside (if you do) isn't enough.

So in addition to being a shitty poster, you’re a shitty dog owner?

You are describing a shitty dog. Sounds similar to the St. A
Bernard overbreeding problem dogs (from years ago when they had a popularity spike).

My Aussie is very protective but is socialized. I take her to the Clerk of Courts on occasion and she visits everyone. She doesn't like kids or cats but now is non-aggressive towards them. You have a bad dog and it sounds like it is your fault for not socializing your dog.

We installed a temporary fence to keep him from jumping. Our neighbors have a Mastiff and they both like to rough house. He has never bitten anyone or a dog. My hope is he fattens up and eventually can’t make the jump. He comes from a great bloodline and is very athletic.

If you dog is attacking other dogs who are in their yard, I am surprised someone hasn't shot your dog.

Just because he hasn't doesn't mean he won't.

You would be doing a disservice to your dog. Too many dog owners have dogs that look like their owner. Don't be that guy.

Then you need to exercise him daily, maybe even twice daily. Once in the morning before work and once in the evening before bedtime. Allow him to get that pent up energy out. It will be beneficial not only for him, but also for you and anyone that you come in contact with.

A tired dog is a happy dog.

We have a lab mix who is absolutely perfect.
Was a porch puppy my mom found in NC. Pure breeds, in my experience, are bred for looks and they tend to be boarderline retarded. The best dogs we have owned ( and we have owned quite a few since I was a kid) have always been mixed.

Years ago a friends parents had a SB. The dog had heat rashes/hot spots. The dog was well taken care of, they just couldn't stop the rashes. Also the dog would snap at people including me. I hated that fricking dog. But she stopped the snapping a few years later and became a good dog.

This dog is awesome in the woods and in snow. He is fun for our family. He just likes to play rough. People sticking their face in a strange dogs face are just stupid.

This
If you were my neighbor and your dog had broken into my yard and attacked my dog, you’d be retrieving your dogs corpse from my trash can if you still wanted it.

Aside from the dog being in danger of someone defending their family or pet, you are in danger and could be liable if he hurts someone. Better get ol Cujo figured out quickly.
