No and it's people like you who encourage these bastards. If it was a few actual homeless people here and there it'd be one thing, but if you haven't noticed it's gotten out of control everywhere. Stop giving them your money.

Only if they make me laugh. It's my rule.

Yesterday outside of the grocery store a man asked for $0.50. He said, "I'm blind! Look!", and then picked up his sunglasses to show me his glass eye.
I laughed and gave him a dollar. I've also had a guy tell me he's diabetic and tried to show me his foot, which was supposedly missing several toes. He got a dollar.

There's also a guy around town with a sign that says, "Money will be used for booze." He gets a dollar every time for being honest.

If you're talking about the all the homeless under the bridge in NOLA, theres 2 homeless shelters within a few blocks. If they really wanted help they could go there, but they stay under the bridge because they're addicts and just want money to get high and drunk on. You're only hurting them by funding their addicition. Give to the charities and the shelters themselves instead

No, very few are actually homeless. Most of them are basically prostitutes and have a pimp that pick them up and drop them off every day.

I tell them I just left work and part of my day at worked payed taxes for them. Because I Guarantee they are getting money. There is a place next to St Vincent depaul off Florida blvd in BR ( has nothing to do with St Vincent depaul who I think does great work) that enables these people. It's a one stop shop for homeless. Place to watch tv, wash clothes, mailboxes, Dr and dentist, lawyers to help them sort out their legal troubles, plus help signing up for all the gov't benefits. I want to think they are helping but I think it just does too much and makes it too easy for them to continue being unproductive citizens.

I used to give them beer I bought but didn't like. Now I know my palette so that rarely happens.

I'll give my change, few singles, or offer food to the homeless who aren't in my face or ask for it. For instance, and we've all seen this, a raggedy looking guy with a stray dirty dog sitting against the side of a building with a cup in his hand.
Now this guy may not "deserve" anything, but I like lending a hand to people who are hungry and truly need help.

I give no one who is on their own going around asking people for money. There are resources available for homeless people... There are free meals offered to the homeless, there are homeless shelters, etc. The resources may be scarce at times, but the bare essentials are available. More than likely, people who are asking for money wants it to by alcohol.

I usually don't, but I gave 5 bucks to a guy who was not aggressive and polite on the MARTA ride after SECCG.

He probably bought a shot, but whatever.
