When they ask for "spare change?" I'm not made of money but sometimes I'll spare a few bucks because I feel bad for them. There's always the chance the money will go towards booze or drugs, so some will elect to instead give them some food/water. What is your stance on this? I also have a feeling a meme of Randy is incoming.

Nope. I'll buy them a quarter pounder or some chicken nuggets though.

I hate when they shake their change cup at me. It's like they are taunting me. Nothing like a daily reminder that even they have more money than I do right now

No. I don't buy them food either so they can use the money they do have on drugs. The guys you're giving money too have more money in their pockets at the time than you do. That's a garuntee. I've lived in downtown Houston for three years and see too many of them on a daily basis.

I worked with issues addressing Homelessness for years, Veteran and Non-Veteran populations.

Salvation Army and Good Will are excellent resources to donate to. I never give money directly to individuals.

I offer and have bought food for them. The homeless in South Beach were legit homeless and not scammers and would always accept.

There was this young dude outside the shell by the airport. He was clearly tweaking out on something, itching himself and fidgeting. I see them there every time I fill up coming home from work. I gave him a couple bucks and he immediately ran off to another building and came back in a couple minutes and used some sort of drug right in front the building.

I should have said no but I had the small hope he would get a bag of chips, a bottled water, or something actually beneficial

Yes. If I have changed or a single dollar bill. Heck, even if he spent it on a beer their lives are so bad that why not?

It is so bad in downtown houston. If you don't use the tunnels, expect multiple per trip outside

This past summer I was in Lexington, KY and there was a very obvious meth addict who approached me about spare change because he needed to call a cab to bring him to pick his daughter up in Cincinnati. I told him I don't ever have cash and only use debit card.

The dude then goes on a 5 minute lecture, calling me stupid and unprepared. Said when the banks go down, I'm gonna be stuck shite out of luck because I only have a useless piece of plastic in my pocket. He went on and on.

Then, he walks out to the middle of the parking lot and his friend swoops around to pick him up in an old jalopy.
