Well put, depending on the taxes in your precinct. But, public schools are really good, so no real need to spend all that money on private schools.
bingo. the public schools are insane

Yup, one of the main factors I jumped on the move when my company asked. Well, that and the hookers are way better looking here..... And the Blow is top notch....

Some really great homes in the Lantana area for good prices.
Posted on 3/28/14 at 10:01 am to Hat Tricks
Lantana looks very nice, and yet the prices cover a wide range. This is something you don't see in LA.
I was looking at listings in Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney. Apparently that development includes like 72 neighborhoods and a ton of amenities.
In LA we gripe about the lack of planning, but when parts of TX do these "master-planned communities" we sneer and call them cookie cutter. I think a little planning would be a welcome change.

You must be on the east side. If not you arent getting to downtown in 30 min from any 180,000 golf community.

Is there something wrong with the east side? I don't know Houston all that well.

Yup, Lake Houston area.

Huffman is NE which is VERY different than east Houston (Baytown/Channelview). East Hou is industrial with a lot of taco trucks. NE Hou is bedroom communities (kingwood area) with a bit of country influence (Porter, Splendora, Huffman).

Not necessarily. The port and a lot of industrial areas are east of downtown as you travel down I-10 so it gets pretty rundown. No one is jumping to live in San Jacinto or Channelview. Once you get a ways out there are some cookie cutter neighborhoods that are new.
Kingwood is nice and about 35 miles NE of downtown but 180,000 isnt getting you very far.

That's the area I would have guessed as it is the most bang for your buck around Houston but I didnt know $180,000 would get you that much house.
How old?

enjoy your circa 1960 1,800 sq ft house for 240,000 that is blocks off of major highways with no true neighborhood. Their suburbs, enjoy your circa 2010 house that is 2200 sq ft for 240,000
In 25 years that 1960 house will still be standing.

Built in 2007. My lot backs up to the woods, which I love. I made a good buy, talked them down from $200+.

Your numbers aren't even close to being accurate FYI. I know because I have a home in Houston and I know what pay in my escrow each month.
But what you fail to mention along with the higher property taxes is that in BR you can send your child to some run down piece of shite school in the ghetto where they can barely teach students to add or you can be in Katy ISD like me and send your child to school at one of the best school districts in the state of Texas.
Enjoy that great Louisiana public education!!11!!

Don't get me wrong, there's expensive arse real estate in both locations, but you can buy a brand new house for damn near nothing in some areas.

Bingo. We have a 3,443 square foot house that was built in 2011. The neighborhood is one of the fastest growing communities in the entire country. The neighborhood is equipped with 30 miles a hiking/biking trails, lakes that you can kayak in, a disk golf course, a community center, 2 tennis courts, a basketball court, a dog park, 2 swimming pools, a gym that is free to use that even has classes at, a restaurant in the community center, and 2 schools in the neighborhood along with countless events that are put on by the neighborhood (one example was a casino night recently where they raffled off like 25 prizes after everyone got to play casino games for 2 hours. Admission was free)

Who cares about public schools in Louisiana. My parents found a way to send me to a Cathoic private schools on a modest income. It can be done.

Looks like you did well. Thats a beautiful house.
I bought 4 months ago but wanted to stay inside the loop due to my single status. Lets just say I paid a lot more and got a lot less.
