A constant reminder for me is how out of touch I am with many modern pastimes and pop culture movements. Have zero interest in super hero movies, video games, most modern “music”, Tik Tok etc

Same. I typically can't even find a single thing on TV/streaming that I have any desire to watch. A movie comes out maybe once every 5 years that I have any desire to go see. Don't even get me started on music.

I think once you get over 45, society becomes unfit for you to thrive in and people pare down friends and social outings for more personal fulfillment. Culture is always geared toward the teen and 20 something.

"Time flies" is an understatement. Most people will never do the things they keep putting off.

All the time

I literally can’t stop thinking about how I’m doing nothing but getting older every day

It’s pathological

20 years now, where'd they go?
20 years, I don't know
I sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they've gone
And sometimes late at night
Oh, when I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall, I recall
Like a rock, standin' arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin' from the gate
Like a rock, carryin' the weight
Like a rock

Great song

I was thinking the other day, damn it sucks getting older and having so many people die. I also thought the other day, it’s cool getting older and watching all of these kids grow up.

Speaking of which...

Cool to have sons grow up to a point where they want to buy Dad a beer. And legally can!

I'd like to tell you it gets better but I hate to lie

But I'd say it beats the alternative, or as an older gentleman told me, every day above ground is a good day. That guy always seems to be in a good mood.

This is why I place so much emphasis on travel and making memories with people rather than buying toys and new cars every other year.
You only have so much time. It's your most valuable asset.

Makes you realize that sitting in a fricking office posting on TD for 8-9 hours a day really sucks.

I don't mind so much getting old, but why did it have to happen so fast?

Do you ever ask yourself "Where did all the time go?"

Back in the 90s I was working at a music store. We'd gotten a poster for some Dr Dre CD, but what I remember about it was that we had it the break room, and one day it caught my attention. I think it was probably some greatest hits thing over a decade or something.

Point is, the poster had years written like this:

1982 - 1983 - 1984 - 1985 - 1986 - 1987 - 1988 - 1989 - 1990- 1991- 1992

The passage of time hit me for the first time seeing that. When you think "ten years" it doesn't quite hit home. But when you see it listed like this, with each year being distinct, each year having 365 days each with 24 hours...you realize how much time has already passed.

And now, it's been THIRTY YEAR since that realization, which is even crazier.

when you're 5 and live to 10 you've lived 100% of your life again.

My "little" girl will be 14 in Sept. I look at her and it's almost like looking at a grown woman.

We always took video and images of her as she growing up and thank God we did.

I spent a long of money on DslR's and video cams. Worth every single cent spent on hardware and hard drive space.

Today, even the cheapest cell phone can take pictures and cheap digital cameras are available at your local WMT or Target.

Cameras are time machines.

It really is frustrating, but also indicative of how precious life is.

We all periodically have this realization, become determined to live in the moment and appreciate what we have, and then months to years from that point feel like we were unable to accomplish what we set out to do.

It’s like attempting to grab smoke, becoming disappointed that you can’t, and then resolving to try again.

This. And add kids to that makes it worse. You see in real time how fast it is going versus how fast it felt. My sons entire junior high photos are on one device. One iPhone. It actually goes back to about 4th grade.
