Depends. Certain things that require a larger cut of meat (ribs, brisket) would be cheaper for a single person to get at a restaurant. What are a few other examples of meals that are cheaper at a restaurant than at home?

Grocery stores gouge you for buying small amounts of anything, if it’s even an option. Looking at a head of lettuce, as an example, the price per pound is pretty reasonable… but are you really going to eat that whole thing before it goes bad, pulling off a leaf or two for every sandwich or taco? Chances are, most of it’s going to be wasted. If you want less lettuce, say just enough for five sandwiches, then it’s going to cost the same as an entire head (if it’s even available).

Can you eat ten pounds of potatoes before they go bad? I’ve tried that before. I like potatoes, but I was sick of them by the time I was halfway through the bag.

I’m not saying that the problem is unsolvable, but it requires a lot of work to coordinate enough ingredients to make a couple of meals without wasting anything, and the prices change every week

Not really. I ate red beans and rice and chicken tacos for the past several days for much cheaper than even a "cheap" meal at say Subway.

If you don’t eat leftovers, I could see how eating out would be cheaper.

If you eat a bunch of leftovers, I think you come out ahead.

Works like that for me at least

I get what you're saying but lettuce is like $1.50 a head. Even if you throw half away you're probably ahead of restaurant prices. As far as potatoes, they do sell them individually. You don't have to buy a 10 pound bag.

You do what works for you but I'd bet the vast majority of dishes are cheaper at home.
