Purple ribbon winner in Poultry Judging here. I think your husband's right. Why would an egg float? That's not right.

The only time I check an egg is when I crack it open in the skillet. I don't ever recall rejecting an egg. I eat at least two eggs every day.

When they decompose they make gas. Same reason bodies float when the decompose.

If decomposition occurs, gas formed will just increase the internal pressure in the egg but will not change the weight of the egg and will not make it buoyant. Your hubby is nuts and you need to tell him such. I have never floated an egg and in my 70+ years and thousands of eggs have never ever cooked an egg that was bad. It's absurd.

Eggs don’t last long enough to have a need to check for spoilage.

Lord Dys, did you awake good memories!
We were told to first look for cracks. Then the home test.
Gotta tell ya, I did anything that woman told me for love.

They do float. I read somewhere that your chances of getting a bad commercial egg is about 1:30,000.
Do your research on eggs.

If I know they are old yeah, but I do it in a coffee cup

She's more than likely speaking about people our age. Would you think
any of these "pups" would even know of it?
I barely know and I'm older than you I think.
Night y'all.

quote:I've never seen an egg float when boiling and for ones I've cooked differently I've never checked. If he's having that happen constantly something is wrong with him.
No he usually boils a few so he fills up the pot and if they float he throws them out

Well did they? I check mine too but they never float. Even weeks after expiration.
They didn't float to the top, but stood up end to end, indicating they were "stale", but still good to eat.
They were 2 weeks past carton expiration.

When I take a hot bath, I check my balls to see if they float

Never had an egg kill me yet and have never gotten sick from eggs. Don’t check for floating. Too much trouble. It’s all just protein to the body.

Do you eat floating eggs?
No but I eat crawfish with straight tails.
