No, but a man with an Indian accent likes to call me saying I did. Wants me to pay over the phone so it will go away nice and easy instead of him sending me to a Federal pound me in the arse prison

Most of the people who get arrested seem to be between 40K and millions but I am sure that only a small percentage of people who do that are among the ones who get caught.
Either blatant frauds, politically targeted or just the unlucky ones who get audited and have illegal actions.
My friend’s mom did a year in prison for having millions undeclared in an account in Lichtenstein but it was all mob money too, so I am sure she was scrutinized much more than the average person with such an account.

There's also a big difference between blatant cheating and being creative with deductions or taking a deduction that is a little grey.

I received some inheritance. It was savings bonds. I received a K-1 on the interest. I’ll wait till next year to file it. Might not ever.

Many years ago I used a guy who retired the IRS and if anyone ever got audited he was always able to take care of it with one phone call. This guy was legendary. I stopped using him about 15 years ago because I realized that he was a little too shady for my liking. He passed away about 5 years ago and then it seemed like it was open season on all of his clients. I had a lot of friends and coworkers that still used him and it seemed like all of them got audited that year.

What happened with their audits?

Turbo Tax is conservative. There was a deduction that my sister (who is a tax attorney ) said should be ok, well Turbo Tax would not let us take it. So yea.

Audits are pretty damn rare. He must have been flagged by the IRS

Not sure of what the number that would warrant criminal charges but a friend of mine currently is in the process of paying them back after getting caught owing 35k. All he got was a letter asking him to set up a payment plan.
