started but he said that since my dad passed, id make a great candidate for a Mason. He went on about how they got tiers and how everyone from the next tier group had to approve a promotion and joked that he'd probably black ball me. He said something like they can try to kill me, im old, I don't give a damn.
This guy was full of shite and trying to impress some folks.

It’s called thé Honesty and Integrity Award. It’s a big deal for Louisiana lodges. Not because it’s a big monetary award, but the state and district lodge leaders push it as a way to be involved with the community.

One of these open secrets involves prince hall masonry...I was told in confidence that if I met a black man who claimed to be a mason in any fashion that he was lying.
That’s not necessarily true. Most state (not Louisiana) jurisdictions have accepted Prince Hall Masons as “real” Free and Accepted Masons

I have been told a "joke" about this and the use of white and black marbles used to "vote" on a prospective member and the fact that one black marble meant the applicant was rejected.

The use of black marbles and white marbles when balloting goes back to before the American Revolution. It wasn’t until after the revolution that Prince Hall Masons were a thing.

Interesting. It looks like about 46 of 51 grand lodges in the US voted sometime around 2021 to recognize the larger of the Prince Hall orders. I gotta say that is, in my opinion, a significant move. From what little research I just did most of those votes were pretty close to unanimous.

I know someone who I am better acquainted with than anyone on the planet who became a mason in 1988 in Georgia and gave it up over this issue. He was not aware of the prohibition when he started and he was unwilling to just quit once he started but immediately upon earning the master rank he stopped having anything at all to do with the lodge. It is good to know that maybe only 33 years later the grand lodge of Georgia, in near unanimous fashion, acknowledged all Masons in the US. In the overall scheme of things that is a pretty fundamental shift in ideology in only 33 years.

Americas founding fathers were mostly Freemasons, and perhaps it was a trick to destroy Europe and especially the monarchies of the west.

Gee, if only there were a female counterpart to the masons...
They could call it something like the Order of the Eastern Star.

That would be me!

And the only "secrets" among the Masonic appendant bodies, are the modes of recognition. How else can it be proven one is an actual member?
Anyone can buy a ring or lapel pin online!

I've never been to a Masonic function that served Bourbon or any other sort of alcohol for that matter.
