This is the first time you've written the word "opportunities" in our entire conversation.

What "opportunities" would the child be denied if Dad doesn't buy Mom a matching mansion? Did I not say the child's needs are to be met? That includes school.

Please expand on this "opportunities" business and explain how they require more of Dad's money to be transferred to Mom.

I cannot wait to hear this.

I can see where the issue is, because you keep thinking I'm just randomly talking about an XBox. That's on you, not me.

Never said they needed a matching mansion, so how is this question relevant?

So if Dad makes a few million dollars per month, you're saying the child shouldn't have the opportunity to go to a better school? NOpe, if Mom doesn't work or makes minimum wage, you're ok with the kid going to some rundown, poor school while Dad just hoards all of the money, right? Again, like I said, you can have that opinion, but you can't also say the kid is the top priority while simultaneously having that opinion.

I just did. Funny that you're saying you cant wait to hear this like my opinion is sooooo outlandish, while you're out here advocating that the child should not be the top priority here.

We were originally talking about luxuries. Now that you can't think of a reason Dad needs to buy luxuries at Mom's house, you've pivoted to "opportunities", although you're still failing to provide any coherent explanation as to what sort of opportunities require Dad to give Mom money.

Are you even reading this?

If the Mom lives in a shitty school district, then she and her baby-daddy should agree to send their child to a private school.

This has nothing to do with Dad writing any more checks to Mom.

Definitely not. Dad can write the school a check directly. Mom doesn't need that money. She'll probably spend it on drugs if the situation is as dire as you describe.

Looked at my first post on this topic, not talking about "luxuries" so no. I did make one reference to Dad "living a life of luxury" but never once said the child needed to have the same luxuries, so nah, you're off there if you're basing my entire point and all these posts on 1 line about Dad. It was painfully obvious based on all my posts being very consistent exactly what I was referring to. That's a you problem if you missed it and assumed I was talking about an Xbox.

Interesting you think I pivoted. As I said, I looked at the first post I made on this subsection of the thread, and it's exactly the same it is now, the exact opposite of a "pivot."

I just gave one above, you're ignoring it.

If the Mom lives in a shitty school district, then she and her husband should agree to send their child to a private school.

How is the kid going to to a private school if mom works minimum wage and is receiving child support for BASIC needs, as you stated? The ability to go to private school is not a "basic" need by any definition, it's pretty obviously an opportunity that some, but not all children have.

And if Dad doesn't want to write that check, sorry kid, too bad?

quote:

Definitely not.
Definitely did, it's on you if you missed it, as you certainly read my posts.

quote:

Dad can write the school a check directly. Mom doesn't need that money.
Dad can, Dad can also say, nah no thanks. And using your argument, the kid is just screwed since he's only getting the bare minimum it takes to raise the child, so public school is all he can get if Dad isn't willing to write that check.

Nope. School does not require Dad to give Mom money.

Dad Will Write A. Check Directly To The School

Yes. But how is this any different if the Parents were married vs divorced? Should the state come in and force parents to send their children to private school, simply because they can afford to? Of course not, so what changes about that when the parents are divorced?

Can you imagine the disputes this would bring up? Every walmart receipt being itemized and wanting to bitch the mom is shopping at whole foods instead of Kroger.

The court decided the mom is competent and doesn't want you in her business.

Would you want to grant her access to your finances to make sure you are spending a sufficient amount on the child? That you are shopping at the right places?

So who can support the child better? Dad doesn't need to make Mom rich because they had a child together.

So we award the kid to the person with the most money?

Or in equal love situations, the rich one can buy the love of the child?

Think about it...
Dad makes 180k and Mom makes 30k. 50/50 (+41% for dad) custody, mom with primary because, well...that is how it works.

However, Dad only has to pay about $1000/month (actually would be a lot less than this, probably 500/month). This brings the income to 44k vs 118k.

Which one do you think is still able to provide a better quality of life at those incomes? Who do you think the kid is going to eventually want to live with? The parent struggling to buy a Happy Meal or the parent taking them to Destin twice a year for a beach trip?

Off topic but....

Separated 8 years ago

Divorced 6 1/2 years

Wife was a stay at home mom

Youngest son was 11 when we separated.

Ex could have gotten lifetime spousal support, but...

We agreed to a flat amount a bit more than the total of spousal and child support for a fixed seven years. The amount didn't decrease when my son turned 18.

After I max out my 401k, etc., it is more than half of what I take home.

I dropped off a check this morning.

Six payments left.

Believe the message is that two adults should be able to come to terms on what an acceptable amount is that would cover just half of the child's actual expenses. No reason that a women should be going to court to get absurd requirements put on a man unless he is not doing his part. Instead, it has become the norm for women to instantly go for a cash grab

The kid deserves a certain lifestyle. The child support is given to ensure that the child can maintain the same lifestyle at both households.

I don’t disagree with that.

It isn't fair to punish one parent who can't provide the same level.

It’s also not fair to punish a parent who has higher earning potential either by having them pay an amount that allows enough after spenditure for the other parent to use those funds for vacations, personal purchases not related to the child’s well-being, etc.

The court has more important shite to do than worry about watching nickles and dimes.

A lot of times it’s quite a bit more than nickels and dimes.

Just like tax payers with the IRS, parents receiving child support should be subject to random audits of how they are spending said child support.

In this example, there is an opportunity and the child's interest should be put first.
Then the courts should consider that when awarding custody. They should also consider that children raised by single moms are much more likely to end up in prison or addicted to drugs compared to those raised by single dads.

Blake Griffin shouldn't have kicked her and the kids outta the house so he could run off and have a fling fricking Kendall Jenner's nasty arse, which is what happened. Also, the dollar amount is outrageous to us but what he was ordered to pay is less than 10% of his yearly salary.

If he was a normal Joe Blow like any of us it be a helluva lot more than 10%. Got no sympathy for him at all.
