I find that most people who act like that do so because the people look lonely or they want to make sure that people who go to church felt welcome. I can understand where people get super pushy, but that's never really happened to me.
No, none of that has anything to do with it. They're cultish.

Most people have a healthy relationship with religion. Even priests are mostly just like any other regular people but they made religion their life.

But these people I'm talking about are like psychos.

No almost to it. It is nothing more than a socially sanctioned cult. No different whatsoever. Groupthink.

That's a good way to put it in simple terms. I think a lot of people have a guilt complex about themselves regardless of whatever their personal struggle is; regardless of how large/small their guilt nearly every person has a personal struggle and an accompanying shame- and these perky bright-eyed church folks always seem like they're so hopped up on life that it makes it hard to relate with them in a social way.

I get that they are good Christian trying to "live the gospel" by adhering to the moral teachings of Jesus Christ and that the way they present themselves as a role model to others is kind of the whole point of Christianity and passive evangelization. It's just not a quality I am always enthusiastic to interface with.

I can't say I am really creeped out, but I am always suspicious that it is just a ploy to get you to come to their church.

I don’t go to them anymore. One thing I learned about churches, when they want something bad enough, they will pull out all stops to go get it and don’t give a flying frick about the collateral damage or who they frick over because it’s all in the name of Jee-zus. As far as I am concerned, Jee-zus can go screw himself. My then wife got caught up in a church the rest of us did not approve of. She started working there, then they hammered on her to join. Once she joined, they hammered on her to get me to join. When I said no, they convinced her she would be better off single. join. Once she joined, they hammered on her to get me to join. End result: after 27 years of marriage, we divorced, she flew the coop and I finished raising our two children on my own. Can’t begin to tell you how many times I have had dreams of sneaking up there one Sunday morning, putting a barricade on the door handles, setting fire to that fricking place, and enjoy a cold beer while hearing those assholes scream and die.

Ten years later, the dream has finally faded, but I’ll be goddamned if I ever have anything to do with those assholes, or set foot in another church.

Just can’t play that game anymore.

All they want is your money, your food (free meal), and whatever pussy you have under your roof …….. and of course they will pray to Jee-zus for you.

Bastards!!

Holy shite man, that might be the most epic post I've seen on here and it's going to be totally ignored.

Really don't care if it is ignored. Just wanted to say my piece. Religion and I are done in this life.

That's pretty harsh man and I stopped going to church for many years because of hypocritical people too. Turns out I need Jesus more than I need their approval. I hope you find your way back through those doors without setting anything on fire.

Have to admit, the tune "Gasoline" was my theme song for some time. These days, it's simply a state of apathy. I always maintain the religion is for those scared of going to hell, while spirituality is for those of us who have already visited the place.

Don't really see the need for JC anymore.

Churches always want you to keep giving. As far as I am concerned, my kids and I made one hell of a sacrifice and have nothing left to give, nor want to.

Broadmoor Methodist.

People are friendly because amidst their problems, the know they have God and Jesus on their side, that everything will be ok.

Life's not perfect and life's not fair, but there is an awesome way to enjoy it.

No, life is neither perfect nor fair.

That said, I don't believe in catering to an organization that did my kids and me wrong. I simply cannot do that and respect myself.

The Methodist minister was forced to surrender her orders, but that just wasn't enough flesh for what had happened.

I have been on this earth for a little over 60 years and have learned that sometimes you just have to go down a different life path in order to find peace.

I doubt that the institution of the church and I will cross paths again in this lifetime. The emotional scar tissue from the wound they created is still there. Seven years of therapy didn't even help.

I also know how bad it hurt my kids who lived with me until they got on their own. I lost count of how many nights I held them while they cried over losing their mother. I will never forget our dog walking the halls for almost six months looking for my ex and not finding her. When they suffered, I suffered as well.

So no, those starry eyed JC thumpers can go their way as long as they leave me the hell alone.

I am not as angry as I once was, but just don't care anymore.

This is a good point as well. Its like they want everyone to see "how perfect" it is to be a member of their church and how happy one can be if they become a member.

What a strange motive.

No one lives a perfect life so when someone is overly friendly to everyone and appears as if everything is always going great I can't help but think "what is their story?". With that said, there are some genuinely good people.. But they are few and far between.

It's really sad when people are hurt by the church because it creates a wound that only God can heal and His house is a great way to get that healing.

I'm sorry for what happened but don't let a few people give a billions-people-wide religion a bad name. That in itself is unfair.
Every person on this earth is a sinner. People in AND OUT of church. We all sin. But at least the majority of people in church are trying to do something about it. There are FAR FAR FAR more redemption stories than horror stories that take place in church. I'll play those odds and I ended up being one of them.
