Last night one of my dogs were going after something in the backyard. It had rained a little earlier so instead of going to where she was, I got the flashlight and when I pointed it in the area she went after something that went into my neighbor's yard.

Next thing I see... She is sticking her head down a hole and she was trying to get down that thing as much as possible. And then she went about a foot away from the hole and started digging, but as I kept the light on, whatever it was went away.

I was just outside talking with my neighbor, who lives on the side nearest the whole and he said it looked like it could be a rabbit hole. Either way, this is the first time I ever had something that dug a hole in my yard that wasn't my dogs.. But when I think of something coming out of the ground, I think moles, but are they around in S. Louisiana?

My last dog loved to drop them by the door for us, but they are very small. Our dog never dug for them. If your dog didn't dig the hole, rabbit hole makes more sense for the size.

She didn't.

It was a pretty deep hole and she only really digs at things (she doesn't dig holes) and like I said, she pretty much had her whole head in this thing going nuts.

Yes. They are all over my yard. Fighting them is like fighting a land war in Asia.

Does anyone know what creates 25 to 50 holes in the yard? Each hole is about 4 to 6 inches wide and up to 8 inches deep. I won’t have any for a couple of weeks, then one morning the yard is riddled with holes. I live in a rural wooded area.

I’ve had people tell me it’s moles, had some tell me it’s armadillos, and some people tell me it could be pigs. It’s a pain in the arse whatever it is, and I’m ready to remove the problem.
