Are online degrees as respected as "brick and mortar" (for lack of a better term) degrees? If I get my Master's online will I be mocked by my peers and future employers?

If it's an online program from a respected school no one can tell.

If it's from Phoenix etc then yes no one will respect it.

To me it would depend on what the degree was in and where it was obtained from. Some degrees don't translate too well into online learning.

Lots of universities make some programs available online which I think is reasonable and respectable.

Ultimately people respect the person and their results, not some piece of paper.

I got my bachelors and currently working on my masters from a “brick and mortar” state school online.

Doesn’t say anything on my degree about being (online).

This is my plan. It's not going to be from the University of Twitter or anything like that.

My manager was looking at a candidate who had good experience but graduated from the The University of Phoenix. She asked her #2 "do we care?"
The assistant manager said "i don't, they showed the dedication to get a degree. We don't know their life circumstance. That may have been the only option they had and we shouldn't hold it against them."

I respect anyone tying to better their self regardless of where the degree is from.

That being said, snobs are gonna snob.

Universities have pretty much become degree factories these days.

As someone who does a lot of hiring for a fortune 500, I can tell you, for 90% of jobs it doesn't matter.

Like University of Phoenix or Strayer? Lol no. Online degrees by traditional universities? Yes. Those are often more difficult.

Everyone knows online degrees are a joke. If you want to be treated seriously you just go to a university sit in class for an hour while the professor just reads the info from the student website and when he is done he assigns work to be submitted on this website. All done online but you should definitely waste your time and sit in that class

I would have to force myself to not laugh out loud if I saw this on a resume.
