I miss playing pool. We used to go damn near every day when I worked construction after work. There were a a few places scattered around BR called "The Rack". Damn near every watering hole had at least one or two tables. The "serious" players would hang out at "Greenway Billiards" located on Greenwell Springs Rd. for high $$$ games. Big time players such as Minnesota Fats & Steve Mizerak would come in for some tournaments there. I had a table at home for years and we would have in house tournaments into the wee hours. And I can't count how many fights started over a 25 cent pool game. Out to the parking lot, then back in to drink more beer. Lots of great memories.

That's great! Some money won, and a fun time. Can't beat that. Congrats, bro. We were 1-2, bounced by a team from SE Texas.

Back in the day when I was at LSU we spent a lot of time at Uncle Earls drinking beer and shooting pool.

People still do, hope it comes back to “casual night out” status like it held in the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Pool halls got the shaft when retail started to be just about $/sqft revenue and the assumption that the next potential renter for the space will surely will be the next big thing (just to end up with the space being vacant for the next decade).

With the (still) overbuilding of mini-malls I can see another era coming where the square footage for a pool hall is cheaply available and stable cash flow becomes desirable again for land owners.

Were they from Houston? I think there were 3 other teams from the Houston area in the 9 ball tournament. Two of them made it past our round. Did they have a 9 named Ernesto on their team?

Play twice a week in a couple leagues. Love pool. One of the few things in life I am actually good at.

Where do you play? Assuming you are in Houston.

Yup, we were there for 9 ball. Team name was Clutch Time Shooters. We didn't play anyone from Louisiana though. We played one team from Texas, one from California, one from Florida, one from Maryland and one from West Virginia. I think that's it. Placed way better than I expected. 33rd out of the 835 teams.

What's the name of the Florida team? I know someone who was there.

I think they were Cartography Project. But I think I heard one of them say they couldn't use their normal name, so they probably play as something different. I think they play out of Melbourne Florida.

In the early 90's I would play pool every Friday afternoon in Judsonia, AR. We paid 25¢ a game and the owner of the joint racked the balls for us. Damn I am old. I do like that memory though.
