Honestly? It mostly comes from a place of tough love for most. Louisiana has the pieces to be great, and a unique culture to boot, strong oil base, access to outdoors and water. Decent weather year round....

But it just fails in so many respects, and it makes it impossible for some of this to live there - Other promising job opportunities and QoL. I'd love to live in LA, but it's literally impossible without taking a massive hit on salary, job options, and QoL.

Top 5 food city according to Zagat.

Best restaurant in the US for 2018.

Amazon coming.

SHIPT Headquarters

Booming financial industry.

Low cost of living.

Plenty of things to do every weekend.

Top hospitals.

Second cleanest lake in the US within an hours drive.

Beaches within four.

Mountains in two.

What's not to like other than the city leadership that thinks it's still 1963.

But most of us just ignore them and work on making the city better.

I moved out of state after college, and it took me about 18 months until I was set on coming back.

Distribution center in Bessemer. 1500 jobs, but I worry about all those trucks on the road around 459. Traffic is going to suck until they widen the roads.

ETA but it means birmingham will be a same day delivery city.

Meh. Even Baton Rouge is getting a distribution center. If BR can get it, it can’t be all that great.

Am I right OT?

Based on my extensive experience of meeting and knowing people from many different states, I can't think of any group more self loathing about their home or the things they follow/love than people from Louisiana.

The exception to a large extent being Nola expats.

It happens more here because LA really is terrible. I love it because it’s home but y’all are all delusional talking shite about how it’s better than other states. Quality of life is Louisiana is poor for the majority of the population.

Personally, the original question was do people from bama hate their state...

No. I love my city. I love my state. There was a time I didn't, but I grew up.

I'd argue that the poor have it better in LA than they would in most states. If they can hunt/fish/...harvest animals to eat.

I'm honestly just giving you a hard time. I've heard some good things about B'ham. I can't say it's high on my list of places to visit (minus that restaurant), but I'm sure it's a nice place to live.

Not exclusive to Louisiana. That's called the south.

Oh yea, but compared to a state that does not have food in the woods or water...absolutely no one with a functioning family member should starve down in the south.

Highlands Bar & Grill is the truth. I go there every month or so for dinner. It's a much harder ticket since they won the Beard award but it's well worth it, and surprisingly it's still reasonable for dinner and cocktails.

I don't live in either but Alabama seems like a pretty terrible place to live culturally unless you are from there and are used to it. Better beaches in FL, better mountains in TN. Not sure why people are singing the praises of that state on here yet again but tallest midget of LA/MS/AL I guess.
