Well if nothing else maybe 75% of them won't be alcoholics like me and my friend group ended up
And as far as bars being too expensive, they aren't necessarily but if she is only willing to drink bougie drinks then....well....

I really hate that apps have become the default way to meet people for dating purposes since the pandemic.
Sorry, pops, but they've been the default way to meet people for dating purposes since before the pandemic. Back when my parents were in their 20s, people seemed to meet others at work or through a friend of a friend. My mom and dad were both co-workers who hit it off at an office party at a bar one night. Such things don't happen anymore as we have been conditioned not to give "unwanted" attention to our female colleagues at work. Anything can be misconstrued as sexual harassment nowadays.

That's cute. In all seriousness though I get it was before the pandemic as well but no doubt the pandemic caused it to go even more mainstream. Heck it wasn't even 10 years that online dating still had a pretty big stigma.
But I agree that meeting others at work is all but off limits now. A friend of mine and I discussed years ago during #MeToo that any type of workplace romance is now completely dead.
My friend, who is definitely on the paranoid side, even thought about the idea of wearing a body camera. Of course his workplace wouldn't allow that.
But no doubt men are crippled in the workplace now. Any unwanted advances can easily get you into HR with a sexual harassment charge. Any woman could easily end your career with just a few words which eliminates one more area to meet.

There also just seem to be less fun places in general to hang out.
Make your own. When we were young and broke, we partied at peoples houses, parking lots, fields, lakes...

With that said, the loss of the Third Place has been a social issue for several decades now, with Gen Z possibly being the first generation to truly lack any Third Place with the death of mall culture.
It's not like we got an engraved invitation and a map.

A lot of Gen Z'ers don't know how to interact with others unless it is online.

It sucks, but even the most vapid human thinks of themselves as an agent of change. In a lot of younger kids's minds, if they are having fun while atrocities are happening they are terrible people.

This shocks me because that was the ultimate goal of every teen in my generation (well all generations until this one). You got your license as soon as you turned 16 (or whatever the local age requirement was). Everyone did. Boys, girls, jocks, nerds, loners, greasers, bikers, goth, gay, hippie. preppy, emo, rich, poor, city, country, white, black...EVERYBODY got their license as fast as possible.
Because a driver's license meant freedom. To do what you want without your parents hovering over you.
But Gen Z does not want freedom. They are like dogs afraid to leave their safe kennel. Maybe the cause was COVID, or cell phones, or social media or helicopter parents. I dont know what made them like this but they seem to be scared of living.
And that should worry all of us.
So true. Most don't want to drive, I couldn't wait when I was that age.
To play devil's advocate. Hard to have "freedom" when their parents have life 360 tracking their every move.

I have had this conversation with quite a few people. You definitely aren’t the only one noticing it.

Exactly. That’s all we talked about from about 14 years old until we got a license. Lots of us were driving our parents cars around before we had licenses

White people in Generation Z are way better dancers and less awkward dancers than their previous white counterparts. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they know how to have fun.

I live in a University town and am on campus every day at the gym. There are a couple of guys my age (50, so Gen Xers) that workout together and when we do we do not wear Air Pods and we talk and socialize during the time there. Every single college kid works out with ear buds in, listening to whatever, staring into their phones between sets, zero interaction. It is extremely sad.
I even had one kid Thursday night ask me why I don't wear ear buds. Do I not like music? I just said I didn't like wearing ear buds, especially when working out. He told me he wears them all the time and said it felt weird being ng outside without them on. This is an addiction, folks.
College kids today are so introverted because they just stick inside their little world that consists of their ear buds and their screens. Now, don't get me wrong, these kids still go to the bars and I'm sure they do socialize, but they do spend an awful lot of time inside themselves, on their phones, and are oblivious to their surroundings, both visual and audio. It has an effect on them.

^ this.
Gen Z is starting to reach adulthood. While there are exceptions, a large portion of them lack even the most basic social skills and many more cannot even function normally in public as they’re crippled by “anxiety” to the point they come across to normal people as borderline infantile. Their behavior is more like what you’d expect from a shy, insecure kindergartner than a normal young adult.
I’m honestly baffled how many in this generation will survive once their parents are no longer around.

Out of all the available criticisms of young people’s social skills/habits, I think wearing AirPods at the gym is the absolute worst one
