Creosote. Every so often I get a whiff of creosote and it brings me back to my childhood watching my dad work his cattle. The fence posts were all creosote treated Can't hardly find the stuff anymore, but every so often it's there.

The smell of my farts usually reminds me of what I had to eat last night

Popcorn and Brut (not that I ever get that exact combination anymore) ... high school boyfriend and the drive-in movie.
Creosote on a telephone pole ... Liberty, Texas when I was a kid at my grandmother's house.

If they didn't then your brain would be mis-wired.

Pipe tobacco reminds me of my grandfather.
Sweet olive trees remind me of college... tons of them around HPL Fieldhouse.

Skin-so-Soft brings me back to Hopedale, LA 1994 when I caught my first hardhead.

Yep. There is a certain perfume (no idea of the name) that reminds me of my first serious girlfriend. Haven't dated that girl in 20 years, but will always think of her when I smell that perfume. It's strange.
Luckily, my wife doesn't own that perfume.

Middleton Library. Smells the same as when I was a student in the '80s.

Hoppe's #9 reminds me of my grandpa's gun closet. I love that smell

After a lawn has been rained on during the heat of a Summer day the smell of it reminds me of my Summer two-a-days for High School Football. The entire coaching staff is now dead as of last month.
The smell of cheap cigars brings me back to Night Games at Tulane Stadium. "Cold Beer Here!"
There's a scent used in institutional cleaners that reminds me of the school I went to for my Second and Third Grade years. The smell made by using color pencils reminds me of SRA test record-keeping also in that school.

Every time I smell the perfume Patchouli on a women, it reminds me of a crazy Hare Krishna girl that would knock on my door in college at all hours of the night. What a freak she was...

Growing up in New Roads near a cotton seed mill. The smell on a crisp fall morning was amazing.

The smell of gin brings me back to when I had my mega Yacht in Miami. I had an amazing cook. And the Maid!!!! Wow, she knew how to do her job.

Similar to what I remember. The brief smell of a cigarette being lit with a zippo lighter. The blend of cool tobacco smoke and lighter fluid.
Brings back early memories of my dad. (he quit smoking about 35 years before he died). That smell also reminds me of after a junior high basketball tournament. Our school principle was driving me home and he lit a cigarette. That smell.

Of ALL of the senses, smell has the strongest link to memory.....and anything else is a distant second.

The smell of a certain perfume (can't think of the name of it for the life of me) brings me back to Navy basic training, as that's what one of my instructors used to always wear. As soon as I smell it, I envision getting yelled at and doing push ups

While as a food critic in Paris, I came across a most peculiar chef--he was a mouse!
But that dish he made for me took me back to my rustic roots and the smell of my mother in the kitchen with fresh vegetables. I'll never forget that dish of Ratatouille.
