One of my good friends tells stories about how his mom had some sort of lock box over the thermostat in their house when he was growing up. She wouldn't turn the ABC below 87. He said that they would sweat their assets off in the summer. He still doesn't know why. When his mom comes to his house now, he never let's it get above 70. When she complains about being cold, he gives her a blanket and tells her that she isn't allowed to touch his thermostat.
We were driving through a neighborhood on the Westbank one day, during the summer, and it was at least 95 degrees out. I asked him why there were so many black people standing outside since it was so hot. Why didn't they go inside where it was cooler? He said that it was probably cooler outside than in their houses.

St. Francis Xavier in Baton Rouge underneath I-110, black Catholic Church...I went ... I have never sung that much in church

Isn't it a really old building, an historical site? Maybe AC isn't feasible in it for a manageable price or without altering the building too much.

I am sure there are far many more people in there than the building facilities can handle.
It is a horrific, sad thing they ( the congregation) have been through and yet the victims have responded with love. Obviously, the pastor was doing an outstanding job preaching the Word.

Was wondering if someone else had black friends as a kid. I had plenty. 3 I would spend the night with regularly were always very uncomfortably warm at night trying to fall asleep.

They probably have AC but it was 103, who knows how hot heat index was. 10000000% humidity in the Carolinas. It is sickening hot. If they did not have AC in that church someone would die of heat exhaustion.

St Aug in the Treme doesn't have AC and we know the Catholic Church isn't hurting for money. Luckily it had been raining when I went last so it wasn't too bad.

Y'all come up to East or West Feliciana, St. Helena, or northern East Baton Rouge Parish. I can show you a bunch of black churches with air conditioning.
