How does that work? Do you put it in your will not to have that?

Do you have to believe in God to commemorate the passing of a life?

Define a "religious funeral".

I imagine they're pretty similar to any other funeral, just the speaker isn't a preacher and there's no Bible passages read.

How does that answer the question?

Do atheists have it in their will to make sure they aren't given the traditional service like with a preacher giving a mini sermon?

That's what I took op to mean

Burn and spread my ashes. I don't need some priest pretend to know me for a few paragraphs.

However it is more likely my family wouldn't like that. The funeral is for them so i'll let them do whatever they comfortable with.

If I were to die pre-maturely, my mother would do everything in her power to make sure my funeral had religion in it.

I think most of the time people try to honor the wishes of the deceased, but you know some families are fricking assholes.

Well, generally the funeral is for the living, so I don't think the body will get too bent out of shape if someone in the room has the audacity to say a prayer.

My dad was atheist, and I cremated him and spread his ashes like he asked me to. But his mother and other family wanted a funeral, so we had one. Just without a body. I don't think Dad was too offended.

If I was related to said atheist, I would make their funeral the most religious event in history.....just to troll them

I've only been to one where they acknowledged at the beginning that the deceased was not spiritual. It was more or less a funeral minus prayers etc. It was held outside and people went up and gave remembrances.

I want that fun looking tree getup. You know, where they cremate you, load you into a biodegradable pod with a tree seed inside and plant you.

Not sure how legal those are yet though
Either way I don't want to be buried in the traditional sense. I don't want my body to be at the mercy of our future, overpopulated world and its leaders. At some point all of these huge cemeteries will become valuable land once more.

We cremated a family member last year and there was a biodegradable option for both land and water provided by the funeral home. His mom wanted to keep the ashes though so she chose a nice urn. I can't imagine the funeral home would offer it if it wasn't legal though.

This. I'll make sure there's money to cover whatever sort of send-off they want to give me. It is of literally zero concern to me what they do to my corpse or what they say in front of it.
