The back side after the Road to Hana was a great surprise in itself
I remember you and I talking about that in a travel thread. That was my favorite part of the drive. The views, the relaxing drive and I only saw 2 other vehicles the entire way.
I got lucky that the roads were packed and full of idiots on the way to Hana and maps had the same time frame to get back to my condo and I was done with the idiots so backside we went. I never would’ve known if it wasn’t so packed. I’m glad it was.
I’m camping one night at Black Sands beach and staying one night in Hana on my upcoming trip and my woman and I are going to do the backside on the way back.

Napali Coast/north Kauai is one of most beautiful places on Earth, easily.
Kauai is by far our favorite island. I think we know every inch of the snorkeling and diving around the island. Hiking/camping the Napali coastline (if you can get a permit) and kayaking the coast from Ha'ena to Polihole is just incredible. Kauai is best for outdoorsy people but I think if you plan to live there, Oahu makes a lot more sense. Flights are cheap enough to go to other island for the weekend or a few days without even thinking about it.
The longest we have ever been was 6 weeks and while there was still plenty to do I could feel island fever starting up. Honolulu at least has lots of things outside the water and hiking.

You do realize that the reservations they live on aren’t their historical homeland?
Literally nothing I said suggested I believed they were.

You clearly don’t know any Indians.
Yeah. You nailed it right on the head, Chief. Nearly scalped it.

I was stationed there 2 different times and hated most of it. Most anti 2A state we have so if guns are your thing it won’t be here.

Lived there for 4 years and will probably move back eventually. We elected to live out in Ewa Beach, the dry side, and loved it. We had a 1700sqft, 3br 2.5ba house with a yard large enough to hold a 10ft trampoline in on corner for $2500 a month. Electricity was kinda high and traffic was bad during peak hours, but you get used to it. It sucks if you do online shopping. The locals were cool. The time difference during football season was great. You can be done watching games by 2pm and still spend the day with family. After the first year, I was tired of the always sunny weather, and started to miss fall and winter.

Not me but a family from there moved to our community and their kid played baseball with mine.
I spent a lot of time chatting with them.
According to them the homelessness had gotten really bad and dangerous with people crapping in the parks and sidewalks .
A loaf of bread was $5.00
Gallon of Milk $12.00
On and On just like every other Democrat State - so they moved to Texas

Too many roaches and I’m from NOLA. Like everywhere and since they do a lot of open air living, they are all inside the houses and hotels.

Cant imagine too many people visit or live in Hawaii walking around thinking to themselves “shucks, i wish i was packing!”

Unless they were being attacked by the aforementioned locals.

up. Maui is awesome. At the top of the extinct volcano, you feel like you’re on another planet. 10,000 feet elevation looking into the caldera
Yep, like another world
crazy how cold it was up there
and yea maui is awesome. love all the little towns. didnt like the big city asian slum feeling of Honolulu.
overall i love Hawaii and could live there. I did find many of the local natives really didnt want to be a part of the US and wanted the kingdom to come back.
also crazy how fat so many natives are.

One of the tougher 1st world problems is trying to decide if you like Maui or Kauai better. Why not both!
