I know we have a few threads but only found some good info sprinkled in a few posts. Is it best to do multiple tests? Has anyone used promethease and could enlighten me on it?

Just FYI, you're giving your DNA to corporations to do whatever they wish with in the future.

Yes I have done the promethease. Basically they compare your test results against a data base to determine how likely you are to have certain diseases, health problems or drug reactions. You will be very surprised at how accurate it is.

Read some stuff recently where various individuals and organizations have sent known DNA samples to various testing companies to check them out.

Some reports are totally bogus and one of the ancestry website based ones actually ACTIVELY false reports African roots on pure Euro DNA to potentially mess with people.(think: Alabama skinhead finds out Kunta Kinte from Roots novel is his ancestor)

If I remember right, it's 50/50 legit/scam results from the various testing outfits.

I submitted my autosomal results from FTDNA. I think promethease can use Ancestry.com autosomal now and maybe 23&me too. I'd check the promethease home page. Basically the autosomal test are the same but some companies annalyze some different genes I think. I like ancestry for their family trees but I would submit only one test myself.

Promethease tells you your specific genes/mutations, and the characteristics associated with those variants. It’s not predicting heritage, just reading your raw data. There’s no real reason to get multiple genetic tests.

Not worried. He used your real name when he submitted his sample.

Thanks. Maybe I'll share some results on here. Hopefully others will share. Btw, if the govt want a your DNA they can get it. Think about how much DNA you leave around. Deal with it

So, not necessarily the same thing, but my son has a genetic condition which has required us to undergo full exome sequencing. They only tell you about genetic anomalies that are potentially treatable. Like if I had the gene for breast cancer, they would let me know so I can consult a physician. But if they find that I am likely to develop Alzheimer's, they won't tell me because there's nothing that can be done. But since new genes are constantly being identified, you can have them re-evaluate your sample a year after the initial results.

First question is, "Why would 'the government' want your DNA?"
