While this statement may be true on its own, the issue is more complex than "teens being idiots". Add in the new subjective admissions policy and other changes, and you see an adverse effect. One constant is change, but if your alma mater removes and/or attacks the things that you valued from your college experience, why would you continue to donate. More importantly, why would you send your kids there.

True, but one of their alums who's currently newsworthy is that Shreveporter accused of the $100 million ponzi scheme.

They went scorched earth on those frickers. They stripped their charter, stripped everyone’s membership, AND put them on the street.

Alumnus is the masculine singular. Alumni is plural.

first off for the average person you might be right, but by in large universities don't care about $500, or even $5,000 donation that they may lose. They care about the .01% of the 1% that can cut a 7 figure check, and even if they were in a fraternal organization after all of that time where they can make a donation like that, you really think that is what they valued from their time? No they want to make an impact on their university because its the cool thing to do. Now what has a real impact is how the football team does, how happy the alumni base is with the current president of the university, board of supervisors etc.... But I can almost assure you when your dealing with fraternal organizations and it is a group of 19 year olds claiming how wronged they were and then there is a 50 year old peer cute fundraiser saying that we know you were a member of this fraternity but they were sexually abusing women or doing illegal things I bet they look back on it and say yeah we might have done those things also but it wasn't because we were acting intelligently, so do what you have to do, we understand. I think in time you see that as you get further removed from college that you value those things less. But i tell you what find one person 40 years removed from college that even knows what the universities admissions policy is. or a parent that doesn't see the death of the kid differently or that his daughter or granddaughter could be sexually assulted at a frat. ANd what they will say is that we were safe and took precautions unlike kids these days are much wilder. We could ride our bikes till dark in our neighborhood and now kids can't do that.

that would suck for those living in the house. Now they have to find alternate housting for the Spring semester.

This same thing happened to SAE at Texas. But their house was off campus and owned by the local fraternity, so they just changed their name to Texas Rho and kept on doing what they do.

People living in the DKE house are there because they have to. Officers, etc. Anywhere they moved would be a step up.

LSU has done a great job of diminishing the gameday atmosphere and tailgating the last few years. Now DKE National has killed the DKE gameday sign tradition.

The goats love it. Grew up near campus, we would ride our bikes out there as kids. DKEs were funny as shite, inappropriate and talked to us, but were cool. This is in the 80's or late 70's. Wanted to be one but they were off campus my freshman year. Other guys from high school said even if you have to do the goat it's worth it. If you have a somewhat twisted sense of humor, there is reason to believe they will be missed.

The .01% of the 1% that I know that cut very large checks very much valued the greek system and want it to remain intact for future generations. You are correct in that they don't care about the micro issues, but when it his the macro level, it does register. You are also correct that most of their donations are directed to athletics, which could spin off a new discussion as to why they have a passion for the sports teams and how their college experience helped shape that passion.
