I mean DJ's just spin music and don't play it. They don't really create anything at all.

Yet they jump around and get all hype like they accomplished something or created the greatest music humans will ever hear. Like their mix is like Stairway to Heaven or Power (which is not really normal created music either)

What's the deal with that?

Celebrity DJ's. I mean they're just showing up because they're celebrities but these other folks who have followings are pretty much a scam.

Hyped. They get hyped.

If you get hyped, you get excited.
If you get hype, you collect publicity or promotion.

This is elementary school level English.

That’s called open format. It’s by far the most popular genre to spin at bars because people can sing along to the songs. The goal of Open Format is to play a song that people haven’t heard in ages and when the crowd hears it they go crazy. Open format usually plays a rock song followed by an old school rap song then a cheesy old techno song then back into a classic rock song, then a beer drinking country type song, etc.

Bar owners love it because it makes everybody happy in the crowd instead of just playing repetitive EDM or only hip hop

Also.. anytime you ever see an EDM or hip hop dj spinning on the radio or at a major festival type event, 99% of the time they are doing what’s called “Air Mixing” meaning they are playing a pre recorded mix set they created on their computer using some type of auto mixing software (like Able) and they are just up there pretending to be mixing

In other words, DJs have turned into a fricking joke

You're not talking about actual, real, broadcast DJ's, right?

I was chatting in the thread about clubbing a month and a half ago with one of you younger guys that did DJing but did it all computer

I agree with you it's all about hype
back in my day you actually had to be able to keep a beat but the payoff is in how you work the crowd... and we spoke very little it was drink specials and into of the hit of the day

but id crack a joke,,, corporate was pissed at first until a VP heard one night and laughed his arse off,, that and the Rice thing that was my sweet spot I was invited to every event,, offered management at the highest pay

I beg your indulgence to tell the story see I was a DJ so I belong to the entertainment division which meant no one in corporate could touch me without the entertainment director signing off on it and he was the guy the Jew from New York that worked at studio 54 he was my protection
miiiight have been gay and desirous of me,,, I was clueless

if Id move to Atlanta or DesMoine

That Des Moines Corporate pussy would have been sweet

but I having too much fun to be thinking about my future

You say this now, but I bet if you took some ecstasy and listened to a DJ spin a remix of Funkytown, you’d be dancing your little butt off.

Are you seeing a lot of DJ's being hyped up or something? What set you off enough to start this thread?

Unless you regularly go to dance or strip clubs, they are pretty much a dude with a computer

Is clubbing still a thing? I thought all these younger generations were sexless shut-ins?

The problem with clubbing these days is that COVID really fricked up people’s social skills and the fact that clubbing is very expensive

The only true nightlife (Nightclubs) left around the country in big cities - Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Dallas and that’s about it

I don’t even think New Orleans has a club scene anymore - hell of a bar scene but not much of a true nightclub scene
