Your state of mind is a choice bro. My divorce was unwanted by me and literally nearly killed me. My Doc sent me to have a CT and MRI because she thought the stress from it gave me a mini stroke.

I decided to just fix me (because no one is perfect) and when I was ready to be "husband material" God would send me "wife material."

I've been remarried almost two years now literally to the woman of my dreams. I'm the luckiest man in the world.

Just fix the things you could do better and make the decision that you're gonna be happy. The financial stuff is what it is and will work itself out over time. Your emotional state is the most important part.

Wrong. It's percentage based. You don't get 50% of someone's military retirement if you were married for 1 year.

sorry bud. Over read the military part.

not going to get into any specifics. I have kids to worry about and we all know how internet things can get back to harm them.

Eight years ago for me, and both emotionally and financially I am so much better off than if we were still together.

I'm still digging out. Financially, it's going to take a couple years. Emotionally is harder to gauge. I ended up in a serious relationship way too fast after leaving (still in it), so I didn't really take the recommended time to heal & work on shite. I'm not in mourning or anything, but I don't feel carefree & peaceful/happy (my usual MO) either. Still just kinda blah.

No kids, thankfully.

Exactly why I put a halt to the dating thing. I was hurting girls, because I could not feel anything no matter how great they were. It was just about not being lonely.

Did you feel that way when you were married?

Maybe it's just you and getting older.

Some women this age range actually aren't married?

Really? In my group of friends from college, 9 girls, 6 got married, 3 of us never married. 3 of the 6 married are divorced, 1 is getting remarried, 5 of the 6 married have kids. None of the 3 never marrieds has kids.

Also, just in general, I meet lots of people my age (47) who have never been married.

In the South. Especially in south Louisiana women get married at a younger age. I guess it just depends on where you live. But I think its all driven by society.

I grew up in South La. Currently I'm in Ca. I will say that I met more single women living in L.A. and Boston than I did living in La. or Texas.

I've met a lot of women in their mid to later 30s recently that are also never married, many of them very attractive and successful women. Again...I think it just really depends where you live at.

This and also what you want. It's not that I am opposed to marriage, my life just didn't work out that way. Some people can be perfectly happy being single and some people really want to be married. It was never a big deal to me and I wasn't willing to get married just to say I'd been married.

Don't know. If I'd met someone maybe, but I'm not always willing to bend to convention. I'm kind of a bitch that way
