Why should community property be split if only one party has made all purchases or has everything in their name?

well that's kind of the point of community property. the property has to be owned by the 2 people equally

what about the system is so bad?

what do y'all think would help the system be less conflict-filled?

A) Universal prenups
B) a return of the day when a woman knew that talking to another man would get her face slapped off and society would be okay with it
C) Give men the same right to choose paretnhood as women have. Meaning if a woman gets pregnant and doesn't want the child she can have the child and give it to the man, or if a woman greats pregnant and wants the child but the man doesnt, the woman can keep the child and the man can keep his money.

this is actually something i've thought about, which is basically just eroding the CP laws. also creating a statutory payment for replacing that property based on time (and not wealth) judged against the accumulated wealth, and the 2 split the smaller of the 2. i think we need a fundamental reform of community property laws given societal shifts since those concepts were created. women are free to earn these days, and they do. community property makes no sense whatsoever as a societal policy

I have one with my wife. I had the farm and other assets before marriage and have a son who needed to be protected, just in case. I mean obviously you think "yeah we're going to be married forever" in the beginning of every marriage, but you gotta think of a prenup just like you think about insurance, sure you think you're always gonna be healthy, but you still buy that insurance.

The other got transferred to a smallish town and met an adorable local girl, they dated for a year, got married, then she got pregnant a year later. 3 years together, she gives birth(cesarean). Doctor gave her some pain pills and then everything changed. They started fighting, money started going missing, then she started going missing for hours, then days...until a relative knocked on his door to tell him where to find her. He goes to the hood and knocks on the door for a guy to answer and say 'take your wife we're tired of fricking her'

She ended up having a addiction problem but had cleaned herself up, and no one told him because they didn't want to ruin things for her. When she got a taste again, it was over.

That's messed up, both that she didn't tell him and that people that knew her didn't tell him.

I would have left her there.

As a young, married father...this thread absolutely terrified me.. Terrible stories and experiences in here, but informative nevertheless.

Just bear this in mind. The average prison sentence for murder in this country is 7 years. So , as a man, if your child is under 11 years of age, your sentence for murder is shorter than a sentence of having to pay child support that a woman uses to support her new boyfriend.

that though has entered my mind many times, I'm a pretty sane and rational person but I would have no qualms about taking that trade off, sometimes I wish I would have done it

In one sense I got lucky, my ex wife just walked away, left the child with her parents and moved out of state.

Didn't have to deal with that except in getting my child from her parents.

heres the way i look at it, and have for a while now. when you're young, and talk/think about getting married, 99% men, especially the older ones that might have a little more life experience, most ALWAYS will tell you DONT DO IT. now then, most of the time, folks will tell that to you in a joking manner, problem is, they are not joking. I've always thought to myself, if this many people, that don't know each other say the same shite.... there must be something to it

A young guy asked me on a flight last week what I thought about marriage in today's world. I told him I've been married for 13 years and still think it was a good decision, but I wouldn't do it again. Basically said don't do it, but if you do, understand you can never know who you're going to be married to 10 years later.

It's worth it for a small number of people, and always for children to have two parents, but there aren't many who don't have serious regrets at some point.

Y'all know some aweful people if the majority tell you that marriage is a bad idea.
I get it with the lower IQ population because most of them are too immature mentally to not be able to stick to a commitment and not act like a selfish prick.

I wouldn't be too scared by what you read in here as long as you didn't pick someone trashy for your spouse and as long as you yourself are not trashy
