Disrespecting Military Branches

I have proudly severed in the United States Navy for 18 years. I have heard over the years all of the gay jokes, how the Marines are the men's department of the Navy, etc. There are jokes about the other branches, too.
Why is it acceptable to degrade individual branches of the Military? Joking around when two service members are together is one thing but to publicly put down on any branch is asinine to me.

23 years in the Air Force. Cousins did Army and Marines. Heard many "Chair Force" jokes and have given many "sorry you weren't smart enough for my branch" responses. We've done this in many places...but the moment a civilian chimes in...we all stop. You don't get to make fun of one of us unless you are one of us. Less than 1% will put on the uniform. We can bag on each other in a brotherly way...no one who is not a brother can bag on my brothers (brothers also mean chicks who served too).

I was in the Chair Force< think its funny>
Have family in other branches and coworker who was a Marine.
We tease each other but not maliciously.

I find it to be a good-natured rivalry between the services. I can laugh at myself and the branch I serve in and love to talk shite about the others both to their faces and to others. It's the same as talking shite about fans of your favorite team's archrival.

Because men like to frick with each other. I frick with my best friends to no end. And they frick with me right back. Men recognize that this is all in good fun, which is why no branch gets all sissy about it - except the Navy.
