I guess that means all Disney content, including all their movies (which is A LOT), Pixar, ABC shows, ABC Family, A&E, History, ESPN, etc.

It also will launch an ESPN video streaming service in early 2018, including MLB, NHL and MLS content.

Well that is worthless.

Espn is the real news

quote:

ESPN has increasingly been a point of concern for Disney. The channel is expensive, which has led consumers and cable providers to look for ways to drop it from their package or otherwise cut costs. Being able to sell it straight to consumers lets Disney tap into the market of cord cutters who have been missing out on sporting events, while potentially increasing the amount of money it makes per subscriber.

I'm sure tv providers have it in their contracts that ESPN can't offer standalone streaming content. I wonder how this will play out.

IDK.. It could be a good move. Think about all the kids who are only allowed to watch Disney programming. Disney could be limiting their audience by being available on Netflix. How many parents are getting a subscription to Netflix so their kids can watch Disney shows vs the number of parents who are likely to get a subscription to a Disney streaming service?

Plus, am I the only one who thinks Netflix is overrated? A lot of the Netflix originals suck.

NHL is awesome.

They fight.

It's goes almost 20 minutes non commerical action.

You get 15 minutes in between to piss, smoke and grab a beer.

I could go on.

You will have a Disney on-demand app just like HBOGo, Fox, WatchESPN, etc.

Parents will absolutely pay to have access to that.

We're about 2 years away from completely replacing our 125 buck cable or satellite bills with 20 separate streaming accounts at 9 bucks each.

Yep

I don’t think most people realize the breadth of Disney’s content. It crosses all genres and contains some of the biggest movies in the world on a consistent basis, not just animated stuff.

And then there’s Pixar and all ABC shows, which they own as well.

Movies owned by Walt Disney Pictures

Disney has disappointed me over the years. They're a bunch of fricking commies now. I wish Disneyland and Disneyworld would burn to the ground.

I think this makes complete sense for the kiddie content. If I have kids they have enough content to be worth it as a premium channel. If we're talking about reruns of ABC shows like Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, I'm not signing up for a Disney streaming service to catch that. NetFlix or Amazon has the built in audience to value that kind of content a lot more than a Disney streaming service would.

It makes sense. I am surprised they didn't do thus years ago.
