But they kept the basic story and music of Frozen, which kids like. In this one it's an original story. Hell, the story is supposed to be how she started a farming co-op in a salt dome. You think kids know what that is?

Because when you were a child your parents were either too poor or too frugal to go to Disney either and you envied your friends who had gone or (oldies) remembered Sunday night television where Uncle Walt described making the rides and how things were going to develop.

Do people actually care about the story behind a themed ride? I just want to go down that big arse drop
Read the thread. I thought the same, even at 10 years old, but MANY posters are belligerent about it.

They could have made this really good, but man they went cheap! Tons of dead space. How in the hell did they not incorporate the voodoo king at the end before the fall!

My favorite is they went with a New Orleans theme but removed the paddlewheel boat at the end. Lol

I was expecting to see it at the end. They could've kept it and saved a few bucks, instead they just went cheaper elsewhere.

Oh I am not a disney adult or purist. I recognized one song and the older lady, alligator, and firefly. I guess the story line was lost on me.

I also recognize a few Frozen songs and characters too. I rode the ride but had no idea it followed the story. Like Gaston's Tavern- I don't think he actually owned a tavern that sold cinnamon rolls but there is one in the park. I thought liberties were taken but I don't actually par close enough attention.

My kids, nieces, and nephews enjoy Disney and all types of other vacations (like national parks) so I didn't realize following the actual story line was a thing.

don't get this at all. I went to Universal 2 years ago and most of it was just virtual reality junk with a little motion built in. Only really 2 "rides" that I can think of.

Not going to waste time trying to explain this to you when you have no desire to discuss this in good faith.
Getting drunk in Epcot for 10× the normal price is not a good faith reason to go to Disneyworld.

No one did, except for the angry Disney folks in this thread

The festivals are more than just getting drunk and there’s more than just the festivals. It’s one of many reasons and one of many things they offer.

You obviously have no idea what you’re talking about but continue to pound sand and repeat the same things over and over.

Hardcore fans really liked maelstrom, but it was just a dark ride about Norway with a small drop, not even close to a popular E-Ticiet ride like Splash Mountain that was universally loved.

The theme of each Resort, park, land and attraction has been with a separated Disney from the rest of the theme parks. There’s been other things as well to separate it, but theme is where they have truly put themselves ahead of everyone else.

The attractions told the story much like one of walts movies. Some attractions were themed after characters or movies themselves, and others stood on their own. One of the big complaints. Many people have is that the theme parks division is taking existing attractions and redeeming them with intellectual property. It’s an obvious way to expand their marketing and rebrand something but many times the story just simply isn’t fitting. This is one of those examples.

Thank both of you for the explanations. I admittedly don't understand most of it. I just knew my kids are adults now and even when they were young did not know Song of the South or 20000 leagues under the sea. I just assumed outdated things were being changed.

Eta: I like the new princesses so I have no dog in this race.

The Frozen ride actually features all of the popular songs from the movie. Also, while Maelstrom was a great ride, it wasn't Splash Mountain levels of popular. Updating that ride to Frozen has added capacity to the rest of Epcot because it constantly has a 1+ hour wait. It was a clear improvement.

After the "new" wears off, this Tiana ride will absolutely not see wait times at the level of Splash. The "new" usually lasts a year for new rides, but I'm betting this one will not take that long. This ride will actually increase wait times at other attractions instead of decrease them. That's a failure.

I think updating it to Princess and the Frog was a good idea. It seems they failed in the execution not the premise

They had a lot of great to play with here

Shadow man

The lighting bug guy

The alligator

Tons of great songs and water theme.

Not sure how they blew this. It was simple

I disagree. Splash Mountain wasn't having any trouble pulling guests. They should have made a new attraction around the Princess and the Frog that would have actually added capacity to the park.

You are absolutely correct here. They could have at least salvaged it with a good dark ride. They didn't do that. They should have retold the story and included Dr Facilier. Imagine being dragged down the big drop with him at the end like he was dragged away in the movie, and then the final scene is everyone partying at Tiana's restaurant because we beat the bad guy.

But hey, maybe they thought that would be too scary for a ride with a 40-inch height requirement that the overwhelming majority of kids under 5 couldn't possibly ride (as an aside, they demolished the play area for these kids to use while they waited, and put in bathrooms instead). Fine. They could have come up with a new story from after the movie and included the Shadow Man, as you mentioned.

There's just no way to look at this and think "man, that was a well thought out decision."

Princess and the Frog is Disney’s lowest grossing princess movie ever. They viewed it as such a flop they decided to completely abandon hand drawn animation.

I’ve ridden it and understand it more than anyone here, but the only ones embarrassed should be the ones who downvoted my post, because it’s obvious they know nothing of Song of the South. shite happens. I have nothing against them.
